I had an extreme coincidence Monday. It was a trifecta.

I had to go to Comcast to pay my bill since I do not do online billing. Once inside the Comcast office, music was playing. The song which caught my ear was a song by Moby which was Extreme Ways. Nice tune by the way. Theme song for the Jason Bourne movies when the films credits are rolling at the end of each movie.

The I went to my HEB local grocery store. This store plays background music. While walking down the beer aisle, the song which immediately caught my ear and stopped me from walking was again, Moby singing Extreme Ways.

Last night I got on Xfinity On Demand to watch a movie. The move I picked was a Jason Bourne movie. And at the end of the movie was Moby singing Extreme Ways.

So my theme song or today is:

Moby - "Extreme Ways".

This song is kind of a earworm that I've been hearing everywhere lately. Usually it's played in Japanese, but this is a pretty good English cover.

IDOL - 𝐎𝐬𝐡𝐢 𝐧𝐨 𝐊𝐨 𝐎𝐏 - (English Cover) - Jubyphonic

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20YYsQljWFs

I don't know why it's so catchy. I guess it's not technically my theme song, but it is sort of a song that's been background music a lot lately and made me wonder about how stressful things are for people I know who are more public figures.

I didn't realize I didn't list the video for the Extreme Ways song in my previous post. Must be the "extreme" heat indexes we are having where I live in southeast Texas. For the last 36 days, we have been having "feels like temperatures" between 106-113 degrees F.

Now for the song

One of our regular customers came into the computer repair shop where I volunteer at with his desktop computer. I installed MX Linux 21.3 (Wildflower) Xfce on his computer a few months back and he wanted to update it with a clean install of MX Linux 23 (Libretto) Xfce. I said I would do that for him.

He knew I like to listen to background music in the shop's back room while I work on customers computers. I took him back into the backroom and he liked the background music I had playing since it was an instrumental.

He told me he was into "shamanic sound and acoustic sorcery" type of music. We went back out to where his desktop computer was, turned it on and went to his music library. Once there, he found one instrumental of this type of music. I liked it since I could see myself working on someone else's computer, or even my own computer with this playing in the backgound.

I told him I liked this "sound". Since he knew one of my hobbies is prone surfing, he told me he ran across a surfing video with this instrumental playing in the background. He gave me the artist's name and the title of this remix "song".

When I got back home; I turned on my computer, went to YouTube, searched for the surfing video and found it. This, for me, was one of the best longboard surfing videos I have ever seen since I surf a 9'3" longboard. And I added it to my surfing videos in my Surfing folder as a bookmark.

The speed of the video is "slowed down" and this really allows you to see lots of detail in how the surfer surfs this board on a shoulder high wave. And the wave does not have a steep face. These types of waves are easy to surf.

I enjoyed watching his footwork on his board, his body motion, balance and especially his pop-up when he transitions from prone to standing up to ride a wave. Anyhow, I am going to choose this mostly instrumental as my theme song for today. But to be fair, the surfing is for me with the instrumental as a "bonus".

BTW; if you don't like the "sound" of this music, enjoy the scenery.

Poranguí - "Danza del Viento (Dandara Remix)".

Madis - Redstorm

Got this new album and this one is just a nice "train" on the otherwise very background ambient album; just fits my mood this rainy day I want to just unpack and not do anything otherwise.

A little background of me when I was in college.

I have a bachelor of science degree with a major in Biology and a minor in Geology. When going for my Geology minor, there were two courses which applied towards my minor. One course was a requirement which was Paleontology and the other was an elective course and I chose Oceanography.

Getting back to the subject at hand for today, music which I describe as music sounds.

Sometimes I have trouble falling asleep because I stay awake for over thirty hours straight "doing stuff". In other words, I get over tired and when I finally get to bed, I just cannot fall asleep.

When this happens, I have YouTube videos which encompass songs, sounds and instrumental music. The last time when I could not fall asleep and needed a little help, I turned to one of my six instrumental sound videos.

The sounds below deal with "binaurnal beats" theta waves at 4.8 HZ and 3D effects. It is supposed to produce a lucid dream state and I think it does. At least it lets me fall asleep. It is a long video. Nine hours in duration. I do not expect anyone to listen to this video for too long.

But since I usually fall asleep within ten minutes listening to these sounds, I have my computer and my monitor programmed to go to sleep at thirty minutes of time.

What I do. I turn the volume down so my brain can slightly hear the sound, but the volume is not too high to keep me from falling asleep. It is a balancing act volume wise. I also have a good speaker system with a sub woofer so this really helps.

Once you hear the sound from this video, listen to it for at least three minutes of time. Because of this video, it takes me back to the course I took in Paleontology. At the fifty two second mark of the video, from the far left side of the monitor, a tumbleweed will be seen blowing across a two lane road.

At the one minute and eight second mark of this video, you will see one of the "animals" I studied when I took Paleontology which enters from the far right side of the video, crossing the same road. At the two minute and seven second mark of this video, you will see it's companion.

So in closing. Instead of this being my theme song for today, this will be my theme "sound" for today.

I've been testing out the SeaLion browser on my HP dv4-5113cl laptop which I use for experimentation. I decided this morning to put onto one of my SSD's in my desktop tower computer, which has two SSD's in it and it's 32" external monitor for one more test. I did this earlier this morning.

The test will involve YouTube videos since Pale Moon "gets it right" where as Waterfox, Mercury and Firefox "do not". I'll explain below.

When I watch YouTube videos, specifically those videos which help me go to sleep when I get over tired, I have my Mint and MX Linux distros power settings to blank my monitor screen at 29 minutes of time and then at 30 minutes, the entire system goes to "sleep".

With Pale Moon, the videos adhere to the distros power settings. But Waterfox, Mercury and Firefox do not adhere to the distros power settings. The monitor screen never blanks at the 29 minute mark and never goes to sleep at the 30 minute mark. So the monitor and system just stay on.

Sometime later today, I am going to test out the SeaLion browser on one of my sleep videos which is below and see if it obeys the power settings in Mint. The test video is below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kU6H4_uBblQ

And as usual, I like to listen to background music on low volume to work by. When I was putting SeaLion on one of the two desktop towers SSD's, I chose to listen to some INXS music. The song I chose for my theme song for today is below.

INXS - "Disappear".

I live in southeast Texas near the upper Texas coast. One of my hobbies is surfing. I learned to surf when I was 15 years old and it has been a love affair ever since.

This summer has been extremely hot. A high pressure dome of air has been over Texas since the middle of July. The high heat index feels like temperature have reached to 118 degrees F. A little too dangerous for surfing because one can easily succumb to heat exhaustion.

Last Tuesday, August 22nd, a tropical disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico came ashore between the cities of Corpus Christi and Brownsville on the Texas coast. The waves from a storm like this or even a hurricane, the day after the waves are great for surfing.

So I checked the streaming webcam at Surfside County Park at Surfside, Texas at 4:00 AM on Wednesday the 23rd; since they have a light that shines out showing the waves at night and the surf as the say, "was up".

So I went on down to Quintana Beach with my 9'3' longboard and arrived there around 6:50 AM while listening to an oldies music station. One of the songs which I heard on the drive down was a Bob Seger song which well be at the end of this post.

BTW, the waves at that time when I arrived at Quintana were "chest high" on me. I was in the water by 7:00 AM, paddled out and caught my first wave and rode it for around 100 yards. Then as they say, "rinse and repeat". When it started to get "hot" heat index temperature wise, I left at 9:30 AM and was back home by 12:00 PM.

Now for the song.

This is going to be another of my "sleep instrumentals" when I get over tired and can't get to sleep. This instrumental video below uses 3D animation. I chose this one last night because two people needed some work done on their computers. They also needed their computers back by 7:00 AM Wednesday morning.

I got both of these computers delivered to my home at 9:30 PM last night (Tuesday), via my next door neighbor. I finished both of the customers computers by 2:00 AM. Then off to bed I went.

I knew my sleep cycle was off so I went to my desktop tower computer, opened my music library and picked this instrumental below. I fell asleep before 2:30 AM because when I woke up at 6:30 AM, my computer was asleep and it is programmed to go to sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity.

Of course, I had to adjust the volume to the sound to be sure it was low enough to put me to sleep, but not loud enough to keep me awake. A balancing act in other words. And this video looks great on my 32" external monitor in full screen mode and in 1080p HD.

And it has my penchant for some of my saltwater hobbies. Just listen to it for about the four minutes and let the 3D animation float you away.

Another musician/singer from my generation, Jimmy Buffet, passed away this past Friday. He was 76 years old.

I've always loved his music and the lyrics to his songs. So I will pay a little tribute to him by playing one of his songs which reminds me a little bit of myself. This particular song has the love of the ocean in it which I've always loved since I was 8 years old and this love of the ocean has stayed with me all of my life. And I can relate to a pirate. ;)

Since the Basilisk offered it's browser in GTK2 builds and I like GTK2, I went to the Basilisk site for the linux GTK2 tarball download. Downloaded it, went through the motions of getting up it running, configured the Preferences, put the Photonic theme on it, installed uBlock Origin for it and then took it for a test drive.

While I was doing all of the above, I had Pale Moon open and I decided to have some background playing some music while I worked on Basilisk. I went to YouTube and the song I picked was a live version and had a nice mellow sound to it so I looped it. The sound quality is very good for song for a live performance.

Last weekend, my wife's 6 year old great niece called my wife and wanted to visit with her on the phone. After my wife and her niece had finished talking, her niece asked to speak with me if I was around. My wife came into my "man cave" and said her "water baby" wanted to talk to me. Of course, I said I would.

The "water baby" is actually a water baby. Anything which pertains to the water such as swimming, snorkeling, fishing, standup paddle boarding, she can do it all and does it well for her age. But she is tiny and petite. At 6 years of age, she is 44 inches in height and weighs a "massive" 42 pounds. I think when she reaches her adult height, she will be around 4'10" in height.

Her niece knows I have been surfing since I learned how to surf in 1965. She thinks it is "awemsome" I still surf at my present age of 73.

She asked me if I would teach her how to surf waves using my 9'3" single fin longboard. I told her that wasn't up to me. That was up to "your mother". She told me she would "work on her mom" to get permission. I told her if it was up to me, she would have "already" been learning how to surf on my longboard.

Anyhow, she wanted to see some of my surfing videos with women surfing on their longboards so she could learn and get a good idea how the women move their feet on a longboard, the movement of their arms for balance so they don't fall off their boards when riding a wave before she actually surfs on a longbord.

I sent her some of my videos via email, with links to them, which coincided with the parameters she asked for. She called back yesterday, Saturday and said the surfing video in the link below was one of her favorites showing women surfing on medium and small sized waves.

The video has a nice background song to it so I am going to make this my theme song for the day. And it is a cover song too.

I have lost track of the number of times I have listened to this over the weekend, but I am obsessed with this song and the album it comes from. I am not sure if I could ever get tired of playing the album?

I caught a few bars of Spiro's 'We Will Be Absorbed' played during an episode of BBC Radio 4's eclectic music series 'Add to Playlist' back in mid-summer... and thought the track sounded unusual and interesting... minimalist dark folk rock apparently... not that I would know. :)
"Spiro's raw, punk-infused take on minimalist systems music and the dark side of folk, charged with the ecstatic influence of the clubbing scene, began life in 1993 at the instigation of violinist Jane Harbour, who quickly became the band's main composer..."
(From 'About Spiro' at: http://www.spiromusic.com/newsite/)

Investigated further... and to my delight found Spiro's 2015 track 'Burning Bridge' is even better... minimalist, magnificent and mesmeric... a proper earworm... just superb IMHO. This YT version comes with an atmospheric video of the band performing live at Peter Gabriel's fabulous Real World Studios:

I'm sure there are further more songs with Pale Moon in the lyrics

Sometimes when I am working I like to listen to music from video games I played when I was younger in the background, since the music was intended as background music in the first place it usually helps me focus.

Well since we're on video game music now, here's a progressive metal arrange by AQUA STYLE of Seihou 1's Dichromatic Lotus Butterfly ~ Ancients: https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm5911973

I always wanted that part repeated just a few more times and this arrange definitely delivers :D
