In my post before this one, I put quite a few songs from my song library into a customer's song library in her new computer running a linux distribution. She likes the Eagles band's music and another not so well known song from the "Long Road Out Of Eden" album is below.

Most everyone knows the two lead vocalists for the Eagles band was Glenn Frey and Don Henley. But Joe Walsh sang lead on a few of the songs the Eagles made.

The one below has Joe Walsh singing the lead.

Eagles - "Last Good Time In Town".

Today is day 7 since I had my spinal surgery (partial laminectomy) to remove part of a bone which was pressing down on my L3, L4 and L5 nerves in my lower back. This condition was caused by 57 years of surfing the waves when I first started surfing when I was 15 years old.

With the bone pressing down on all three major nerves, I could no longer do a pop-up or a modified step-up to catch a wave on my single fin 9'3" longboard. My surgeon said he had never done this procedure on someone who was 72 years old who still surfed waves. And it was going to take "two" surgeons in the operating room working on me in tandem to "pull this off".

In the operating room, I met with the nurse who was going to be monitoring all the nerves in my body which were going to be affected by the L3, L4 and L5 nerves. I've been in operating rooms before, but I had never seen so many people before. By my count, there were eight of them.

Anyhow, my main surgeon told me there might be "complications" and I already knew all the "bad" things that could go wrong. I told my surgeon what may kill me, if things go wrong, also makes me feel alive. My spine surgeon is 58 years old, with long hair, lives in very small town in deep east Texas and likes to drive motorcycles. A little rebel still in him, just like me, so he understood what I meant.

My wife already knew I was not going to back out. Today, she is picking out the song for me. There will be two videos. One for me and the other for her.

The first video is of course, a surfing video with the background music. The song is "Counting Stars" originally performed by the band, One Republic. The shortened background music is a cover and it is below. If you don't want to see the short surfing video with this song, then skip to the second video which is another cover song but there is no surfing in it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddtTX9sRzts

The second video is full length cover for this song which my wife found on YouTube. So this is a collaboration from me and my wife to make this "our" theme song for the day.

Alex Goot, Chrissy Costanza, KHS - "Counting Stars" (One Republic cover).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSLAO7zxS2M

BTW, thought I would throw in a little trivia for today. Chrissy Costanza is the lead singer for the band, Against The Current.

I'm still recuperating from my spine surgery at my home. Still not allowed to drive myself anywhere and that is a bummer. I'm glad my wife let me tag along with her to go grocery shopping.

Anyhow, this staying inside at home for long periods of days is not normal for me. I'm used to being outside shooting my archery recurve bows this time of the year at some targets. Staying at home is like "prison".

Tomorrow, Monday, I see my spine surgeon and he will remove the second sterile pad covering the incision on my lower back. I'm hoping he doesn't put a third sterile pad over my incision and allows me to drive. I feel like I'm under "house arrest". I know I'll have some restrictions like lifting heavy things, but that should be it.

Looking forward to getting out of "jail" so to speak. And with that said, my theme song for today.

Larkin Poe - "Jail Break".

I had to go Walgreens pharmacy to pick up a prescription that got "lost in the cloud' digitally. While I waited 15 minutes to get it activated and approved since it was a duplicate, the song below started playing. I recognized it immediately since it came out in the year 1986.

It is a live performance at a concert, but the sound quality is very good for a live performance. I imagine the sound quality was enhanced though.

This has been a theme blasting at me at random times this season, so making this my theme song for this Christmas day for me.

It's been about six weeks since I had my spinal surgery. I can feel my lower right side of my back getting stronger too.

My spinal surgeon told me it would happen, but he said it would take about twelve weeks to get to the point where I am at right now. I'm healing very quickly and that is surprising my surgeon. But I've always been a fast healer. Good genes in that department.

I'll easily be back on the water surfing all of my boards right around the last week in March or the first week of April when the water reaches 66 degrees F which is my minimum water temperature since I do not wear a wetsuit.

With lots of time on my hands, I've been looking at more longboard surfing videos and some of them have some really good background music to them. I found one this morning I liked because it had a very nice melody. So I decided to find it by itself on YouTube and it was easy an find.

The lead singer, his lyrics are little hard to make out, but I found a video with the lyrics.

The War On Drugs - "In Chains" (with lyrics).

Just finished viewing a movie named, "The Accountant".

Good movie with the main character being Ben Affleck who has a double life. The song fits the main character of the movie. I won't go into the details of the movie, but to say it is man who has autism, but can function at a very high level with his own personal moral compass.

My appointment to see my spinal surgeon was this past Monday. Saw the surgeon and he had me do quire a few exercises in the room to see if I was "limber" enough to give me clearance to do what I want to do activity wise.

Since I'm healing so fast, I was given my "release" where I do not have to see the surgeon anymore. Since this type of procedure I had normally takes four months to heal and I had it done two months ago, my only restriction is a fifty pound weight limit for lifting heavy objects.

Around lunchtime yesterday, to celebrate my release, I went to the Firewire website and decided to see if they had a Flying Diamonds 10.5 Parallax fin in stock. They did so I ordered it and it should be delivered to me at my home this upcoming Saturday which is the ETA.

So this morning I decided to play some instrumental surfing music, but I like the sound of the 60's guitars. The popular band back in the 60's who did a lot of instrumentals associated with surfing was, The Ventures.

But I found a modern band of today, Allah-Las, with that same type of guitar sound for their instrumentals and it is below. This song is from their "Worship The Sun" album.

BTW, the title of this short song should pique someone's interest other than mine. ;)

Allah-Las: "No Werewolf".

I've got a new Flying Diamonds 10.5 Parallax fin for my 9'3" Parallax single fin surfboard (longboard). I'm going to set the fin up to were it handle any waves from knee high to head high by using different fin placement settings in the long center fin box.

I'll be working in my garage today and this is one of the songs I've chosen to listen to while I work on my board with the new fin.

I've been working out in my garage today getting all of my five watercraft ready for the upcoming water season which for me will begin on Mar 16th. That is the day my four month healing process for my surgically repaired right lower back spine surgery (partial laminectomy L3, L4, L5 nerves) will be over.

I was in the mood for some old ZZ Top songs while I was working on my boards in my garage. But along the way, I ran across a cover song of one of their songs done by an established band, Nickleback. And it is an excellent rendition of the song. So this cover song will be my song of the day.

Nickleback - "Sharp Dressed Man" (ZZ Top cover).

My wife has a 64 bit, 14" HP Envy laptop computer. She has been using this laptop since 2014. It has an Intel i5 processor in it with a processor speed of 2.66, 8 GB of memory, 750 GB platter drive with a back lit lighted keyboard. The screen resolution is 1366 x 768. Everything is easy to get to such as hard drive, memory and small round battery without taking the entire computer apart.

It came with a rubberized matte finish and this finish is deteriorating where the finish is starting to flake off and is very sticky. She told me she would like something "similar".

She does like my experimental laptop which is a 14" HP dv4-5113cl which came with 64 bit Windows 7 Home on it. It has a non matte finish, Intel i5 processor with a processor speed of 2.50, 500 GB SSD, 16 GB of memory with a screen resolution of 1366 x768. But it doesn't have a back lit lighted keyboard.

My 5113cl has run 64 bit linux Mint in the past and it is now running 64 bit MX Linux 21.3 (Wildflower) Xfce.

She told me she could do without a back lit keyboard. So I went on the internet and went to all the usual places like Amazon, eBay to find a 14" HP dv4-5113cl laptop like mine. But alas, there weren't any. So I called my next door neighbor and told him about my problem. He told me he could find something which was very close to my 5113cl.

One hour later my neighbor called me back and told me he found a 64 bit, 14" HP dv4-5213cl which looks identical to my 5113cl. The 5213cl originally came with 64 bit (gasp!) Windows 8, a 750 GB platter drive, 6 GB of memory and screen resolution of 1366 x 768. Price was $139. No back lit keyboard. I told my neighbor to give me the link and I would buy it. He told me, "Too late because I bought it."

I then him I would buy it from him and I will purchase a Samsung 500 GB SSD and purchase different memory to max the memory out to 16 GB. My neighbor told me, "How about a trade?" I told him, "What do you have in mind?"

He told me I have a 64 bit, 15" Dell Inspiron 5559 laptop with an Intel i7 processor in it with a processor speed of 2.50, a Samsung 500 SSD, 16 GB of memory, screens resolution of 1920 x 1080 with a back lit keyboard. He then told me he would purchase a Samsung 500 SSD and 16 GB of memory to put in the 5213cl.

Then I would purchase the memory from him and we would then trade laptops. I told him, "DONE DEAL!" since I, like my wife, prefer a 14" laptop for traveling. The 5213cl came yesterday afternoon.

This laptop came with (ugh!) 64 bit Windows 10 so I went into the BIOS to disable UEFI and Secure Boot and then enable Legacy. Last night I installed 64 bit Linux Mint 21.1 (Vera) Xfce, configured everything in Mint and all the browsers. Then my wife took the 5213cl for a few hours "test drive" to make sure the wifi worked as well as the sound, graphics and she loved the old 5213cl.

So my theme song for the day will be an old Rolling Stones song named, "You Can't Always Get What You Want" because in this case; my wife got what she wanted, but more importantly, needed.

I had spinal surgery on Nov 16th (2022), which was successful, but I was told to "stay off" of my surfing longboard until Mar 16th (2023). Since the beachwater water temperature was above my minimal comfort level now, since I do not wear a wetsuit, the time was right for me to spend almost five days at Surfside, Texas and see how my surgically repaired lower back was "really healed".

With four months of recuperation, I did some research on "over finning a single fin longboard" which is "not recommended", but I was feeling "lucky" I could prove conventional wisdom is sometimes..............wrong.

Long story short; I went to the Firewire website and bought two Flying Diamonds fins. A 10.5 Parallax fin and 10.5 Involvement fin for my 9'3" single fin longboard surfboard and I, through trial and error, made these oversized fins work very well in different wave heights, degree of slope of the wave, speed of the wave, wind direction and wind speed.

But the most important aspect of this surfing trip I took, my surgically repaired lower back felt "rock solid" when I had a few bad wipeouts from head high waves.

I left Surfside, Texas this morning (dark 7:00 am) and said goodbye to my two favorite beaches on the upper Texas coast for surfing, Surfside Beach and Quintana Beach. On the drive home I was listening to my favorite "oldies rock" music station and this Tony Joe White song came up. And I turned the volume on my truck's radio up just for this song and enjoyed this song because I am a fan of this late (deceased) songwriter.

So his song below will be my them song for today.

Tony Joe White - "Bayou Woman".

Glad your back is strong now and you caught some nice waves. I had not heard this one by White before - that's a pretty good tune.
