And it may just be that a browser that has lost its developer and hasn't seen an update in 6 months is the best of a bad group of chromium browsers overall. Might just want to keep using it until the wheels fall off. Don't visit any obviously shady sites I guess.van p wrote: ↑2025-08-26, 05:32Well, again, I've been using Thorium I guess about a year with no problems. The problem now is that it hasn't been updated in more than 6 months, and the developer is MIA, not responding to comments/questions on github. And not responding to my email requesting an explanation about the future of Thorium. Again, all the alternatives I tried had some kind of deficiency/shortcoming that irked me, so I'll keep using Thorium for the foreseeable future.

Alex is also the person who came out with the Mercury browser. And this browser was last updated on Sept 17, 2024. That was over eleven months ago. You can see this at the link below and read his comments where he states Thorium is his main concern.

Something must have happened to him because he is definitely MIA (missing in action).

I'm reading a reddit thread on this right now, that's some stuff that shouldn't wind up in a source repo, don't think I would personally try Thorium at this point.

Re: Chromium Browser Recommendations, Again
Far as I understand it was just a funny joke/easter egg. The problem being that the application became more than just a hobby project by a single person (used only by their friends of similar persuasion) and probably not thinking of the way the world would respond to it being in the browser with wider use. It was immediately removed when called out; but of course once there was moral outrage and people piling onto the dev with it, I can definitely understand throwing hands up into the air and walking away instead of dealing with constant badgering.andyprough wrote: ↑2025-08-27, 16:11I'm reading a reddit thread on this right now, that's some stuff that shouldn't wind up in a source repo, don't think I would personally try Thorium at this point.
I hope not, but it's understandable.

He apologized and removed the nonsense long ago. If that's the worst thing he's ever done (no meaningful harm that I know of), then his moral values are way above most peoples'. As George W. Bush once said, "When I was young and stupid, I was young and stupid," more or less. This is no reason to avoid the browser. Let he who is without sin . . . . I doubt this is why he's been radio silent.

We have seen people avoid browsers (and voice outrage) for way less.

Already posted this in the old thread but, there exists Cromite https://github.com/uazo/cromite for PC and mobile.
It's like vanilla chromium with extra privacy/security tweaks which you can configure in the settings and 0 telemetry. You can turn off ad blocking and anything else you want.

Took a quick look. Will look more in depth when I have time. www.cromite.org apparently is dead, if that means anything.

Looks like it doesn't have a home/landing page yet, but all the ad block filters are downloaded through that domain.van p wrote: ↑2025-10-12, 17:22Took a quick look. Will look more in depth when I have time. www.cromite.org apparently is dead, if that means anything.

The latter specifically was an archive of http://www.sexuallymutilatedchild.org/ (redirects to some other site now). Supposedly went offline due to its hosting provider shutting down, but I'm not sure since it's difficult to come across accurate information.
In a just world, at the very minimum, all these so called "doctors" and "nurses" would be rotting in prisons, along with useless parents. But that's not the world we live in.

Re: Chromium Browser Recommendations, Again
I don't understand what's going on here or why the developer was absent/silent for so long.
To look for updates I've been going to http://thorium.rocks/, going to the "<Links>" heading, and clicking on "Windows AVX2". That takes me to https://github.com/Alex313031/Thorium-Win/releases.
Should I stop going there and go to https://github.com/Alex313031/thorium/issues/1067 instead, or will the 1st site eventually contain the new-version info? It is the Releases page.

New version should appear on https://github.com/Alex313031/Thorium-Win/releases when ready.

Re: Chromium Browser Recommendations, Again
That's the site I mentioned. I was going to investigate Chromite when I got the time. If Thorium keeps going I guess i won't do that, but another delay like the current one isn't acceptable.

Re: Chromium Browser Recommendations, Again
I just simply use the Edge that comes pre-installed with Windows... At least I don't have to worry about security updates, and funnily it still supports the MV2 version of uBO. Privacy is not much of an issue for me in a Chromium as I only really use it for WebRTC (e.g. Discord and Facebook Messenger) and EME (e.g. Netflix).
I might be tempted to use another Chromium if tabs on bottom is an option there. For some reason no Chrome-based browser offers this AFAICS, even Firefox let's you bring it back albeit in an unsupported way which can break anytime (and it definitely does every ESR upgrade)... Not even Vivaldi which supposedly has the most customizable UI of all Chromiums has true tabs on bottom. They think "tabs on bottom" means bottom of the window, which is definitely not what I want in a desktop browser! It still needs to be close to the address bar for me.
