Only 5 days until 2025 Apple WWDC!
On the 9th June 2025 we'll expect new Apple operating systems and potentially new Macs, iPads and iPhones (although I heard we shouldn't expect new hardware). I'm particularly excited about the macOS 16 UI refresh, and I want to see if iPadOS 19 is finally getting a more desktop-style UI/UX. Just can't believe it's that time of the year again!

Re: Only 5 days until 2025 Apple WWDC!
It has been five years since Mac’s versioning ceased to make sense, or ten after the same fate befell browsers. Microsoft has conceded the meaningless arms race for the bigger number that no longer refers to NT version, yet Apple remains committed. To go back would give the game away. I had only rarely been able to use Mac OS when it still looked decent, the most recent time being in a physics laboratory at uni in 2017. I recall that its version of Safari supported Java applets.

Ah yes "UI Refresh" the term used to shovel anything/everything that sounds good in the Bauhaus like thought streams of "modern design" into a GUI, preferably cutting down on that pesky thing called "text" in favour of glyphs. I'm surprised we haven't landed on full Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics yet. And we all know why that is, right? No? it's so nobody needs to translate UI elements anymore, saving a few more bucks. Because those pesky linguists are so gosh darn expensive, one couldn't possibly spend some of that Mac money on those creative souls.

Re: Only 5 days until 2025 Apple WWDC!
I have a fun story about this. Five years ago, I was living in Berlin and visited Dessau, where the seeds of our misery were first sown a century earlier. Most of Dessau is quite nice, but a morbid curiosity brought me to enter within the building which would blight architecture the world over ever since: the Bauhaus prototype. The structure itself was poorly ventilated; the odour of the ageing paint filled every room and brought me to giddiness and wincing and hacking, until I needed abandon my tour for some fresh air prematurely. As if the metaphor did not already speak for itself, it just happened that, the day after my excursion, the Who declared the coronavirus pandemic. This was the day my atavism was for ever vindicated.

The last good macOS UI was the 10.10-10.15 but even that was a let-down. At least it looked like a desktop OS, unlike what we have now and what's to come today.

We should wish OpenCore luck with their legacy patcher for macOS 27 next year. macOS Tahoe is said to be the last compatible Intel Mac version.

Versioning numbers make even less sense when they are randomly doubled, or otherwise leap in broad springs, from time to time. I have witnessed smartphone models doing this. Why?

It's not a typo? I thought it was.

Apparently Apple wanted to line up their version numbers with the year of release. So macOS Tahoe is called macOS 26 because most of its first year of support is in 2026.

Not sure what that's about as it's not possible to visit - paywalled behind "compulsory donations".
How about we reclaim the net from that kind of BS?

I'm not a paying member there, yet I don't get a Wall at all. Only on the rare few articles. Weird. I definitely agree that it's BS.

I just tried clicking the first link. First it demanded I input an e-mail address, then it forwarded to the donation page with no option to decline. Not a good first impression for a very first visit by a new person.

There is no paywall for me. The first article mentions briefly that a new version of Apple Wallet will support digital ID recognised by the US American authorities {...}

I'm sorry but that's a blatant lie. There are often sources listed in the articles. Unless they're completely known and obvious, like this Apple thing.
Like this article (https://reclaimthenet.org/eu-digital-st ... y-concerns) linking to https://docs.reclaimthenet.org/Joint-Co ... rategy.pdf & this article (https://reclaimthenet.org/pakistan-uses ... protesters) linking to https://tribune.com.pk/story/2548783/id ... ay-9-riots ..and many such cases.

Apologies, I was wrong and I hereby withdraw my original statement. I judged wrongly from the Apple example alone. If possible, I would like to edit my original post to correct it.

Apology definitely accepted, and kudos to you for admitting a mistake. Something rarely seen today sadly. I appreciate and respect that immensely.
I wonder how come you and I can read articles on ReclaimTheNet, but not other people though.. I don't think it has to do with my VPN use (if anything, that should negatively affect it). Maybe it's because I'm blocking third party scripts with eMatrix.

Is it just me or does the "Liquid Glass" GUI they are introducing look a heck of a lot like Windows 7 Aero or old OS X Aqua?

I block all scripts by default, so I think that this is most likely it.
