Yet another of the many examples of something being forced into a web standard that would have made more sense to have been implemented as an NPAPI plugin.

If I didn't have the job where I do ATM, it would probably slip past me. But, all the bullshit with only supporting current browsers and not even using the useful features of them seemed nuts to me. At least for the purpose of entering the cards into access control system, I find it less clunky than using a separate desktop application that parses the data from the USB reader and simulates keyboard key presses.
Though API is gated and only works via HTTPS for remote hosts, but HTTP is permitted for localhost. Which I question, considering every malicious actor knows how to get the stupid padlock.
