My personal inclination would be to completely give up on YouTube via Pale Moon, a combination which barely works on my ancient PC. It still works though even under these harsh conditions (e.g. embeds are perfectly fine, mostly), and it's fair to assume that it works much better on modern systems so perhaps this is an overreaction.

If it's a hopeless battle though and it keeps dragging even on latest hardware, perhaps everyone's talents and energy should be better spent elsewhere? Declare it dead, denounce their methods (not unlike Cloudflare) and move on. Or fight back. Just a thought.

With my main browser Waterfox/56.6.2022.11

It seems to me that MTube is something similar for Pale Moon.

There was an update recently and still 360p is the only resolution. Maybe the issue with non-working right when logged out resurfaced.
In my case, Vorapis' extension for Pale Moon doesn't work but the userscript version does for an unknown reason.
That's because they probably are not paying that much attention in updating their extension and, if you're using my modern fork of Greasemonkey where it was being developed to be 100% compatible with the userscript, then of course the userscript version would do great. :D

Stock's UI is very slow, though VORAPIS is OKish. Still, not that great on slow PCs, but I consider it improvement regardless of the browser or computer.

Something odd that I just stumbled on:
I went to the official page of VORAPIS to install the new userscript version, since I was notified of an update that went through on Violentmonkey on Firefox, but when I click the userscript link, it only shows me the older version of 0.9.7.39

Now, when I go to the same link on any other browser, it shows the latest version of 0.9.7.41, including me just viewing the page on a new profile on Pale Moon.

I had to reset the cache through Preferences > Preferences > Advanced > Cache > Cached Web Content > Clear now

Now the latest version pops up and I was able to install it.

This is for anyone who encounters the same issue or don't know if they're even facing this issue, you could clear Web pages cache on your browser, in order for you to see the latest userscripts (especially the ones that are hosted on webpages that rely on browsers' service workers)

And it works normally again while logged out...for now I guess.

I assume it's because they've restored DASH playback for Logged Out users, 2 days ago.

Don't update to 0.9.7.43 or at least make a backup if you do. At least nothing plays with it for me, says something along the lines of connection error and disabling ad-blocker (which I haven't used).

Confirmed.
See:

It is caused by a new strict setting, enabled by default:
PLAYER_REFUSE_ALL_STATUS_WHEN_INTERCEPT_BORKING_POSSIBLE
Disabling that and turning of uBO didn't do the trick here (something else must have interfered), so I had to resort to a test profile. Then it worked again.

Can you (or anyone else) share the previous version of the script?

0.9.7.42 still seems most reliable when it comes to loading videos. Doesn't load comments anymore though. 0.9.7.44 fixes comments, but loading videos, at least when not logged in, is hit and miss.

Edit: Disregard, they're both mixed bag.
