Firefox is not planning to use it as a built-in adblocker. It is to experiment with changing some part of the implementation of ETP. (By using RUST!!!   )

Mozilla may be slow, inconsistent and misaligned, but they are not idiots. It hasn't been more a couple years since Firefox became the only safe place for uBlock Origin. They may cuck to MV3 someday, but IMO that day definitely isn't coming for at least a few years.
They may say it's not an ad-blocker but..

Anyway, I just heard that LadyBird is now also adding Brave's Rust-based Ad-Blocker to their browser. Following Waterfox/Firefox. Which means 2 major engines and 1 new engine will be using it. So it'll probably go "mainstream" and trickle down to Rebuilds of chromium/firefox. I wonder how that will affect uBlock Origin and ad/content-blocking in general..

Hopefully the same happens in new york, or better if any stupid verification laws go through.

If we follow the rule of thumb that unknown means Linux failing to broadcast itself, then where are these hundreds of millions of Linux users? It is our own play on the Fermi paradox.

I've heard quite the opposite - that "unknown" is mostly huge numbers of people in Asia that are doing online gaming with various versions of Windows which may or may not be "legally" installed. But it's all rumours, hard to say - all those millions of people could be using the old Bell Labs Plan 9 operating system for all we really know, or counterfeit versions of old IBM OS/2 Warp.

While we're speculating, "unknown" could just as well be agentic browsing, i.e. a lot of churn from bots or scripts as AI desperately tries to gather data to answer people's queries.

I am not surprised, windows 11 is quite a dumpster fire. They keep forcing ads down their users throats along with other crap that no one wants such as co-pilot stuff.

They just can't stop pushing the agentic crap.

Nadella is too arrogant to admit 90% of his users do not want all this Agentic crap or his ads, etc...

This is why competition is so damn important.

Otherwise people like Nadella think they are invincible and can mistreat their users however they want/see fit.

The "stats" Statcounter is pushing seems "odd" to me.

Desktop Operating System Market Share Worldwide - June 2026. Windows 56.61%, Unknown 21.45%, OS X 11.89%, macOS 4.48%, Linux 4.36%, Chrome 1.21%.

I find it very hard to believe Statcounter cannot figure out what the "Unknown" 21.45% operating system is. As for saying Nadella is too arrogant to admit 90% of his users do not want all this Agentic crap or his ads, etc; I think that is by "design" in his thinking. I'll explain below.

Nadella knows he is beholding to his shareholders in the Stock Market who are concerned about the Enterprise (business) users of Windows. Not the Retail everyday users who do not run Windows Enterprise. Microsoft makes the bulk of it's money in Azure and AI now. And this is why Microsoft's stock market share price is very high and it keeps going higher.

This is why I think Windows 12 will strictly be cloud based (subscription based) when it is released where users will be putting all of their data on Microsoft's servers and the retail users will be paying just about everything by subscription aka "being nickeled and dimed" to death money wise.

Think about it. At one time Retail users who "bought" Windows Office made a one time payment and that was it. Then Microsoft came out with Office 365 which was subscription based and now with Microsoft 365 or whatever Microsoft calls it, Retail users are still "renting" it on a monthly or yearly subscription.

I think Nadella would like to get rid of the Windows Retail market where it's users are everyday users. He knows any money he is making for Microsoft on the Retail market for the Windows operating system is not that much to him in his grand scheme of things and is just "icing on the cake". I think and believe Nadella, when it comes to the Windows operating system, he wants to keep and expand the Enterprise (business) side of the market.

But even the Enterprise market is starting to unravel for Microsoft when it comes to the Windows operating system. Germany is not the only country dropping Windows. It is also happening in France, China, India and parts of Denmark. You can look it up if you want to. And even Austria, while not completely dropping Windows, it is replacing Microsoft Office with LibreOffice and Nextcloud.

And I can see why Linux is gaining market share because of the road Nadella is taking.

Regrettably, W³Schools’ figures, which I prefer over Statcounter’s, have not been updated since September.

We could test this by checking whether unknown queries have substantially inflated upon ChatGPT’s launch, Google forcing ‘AI overviews’ onto its users or other similar milestones. I would do this myself, but my DNS and others block Statcounter.

Is NextCloud intended to be replacement for OneDrive?

We have one such instance at work. It's hosted on CloudLinux OS instance, apparently commercial Linux distro used by hosting providers.

Instead of me typing a long manuscript for an answer, I'll give you the AI statements which I agree with.
Yes. Nextcloud is a powerful open-source replacement for OneDrive. Instead of renting space from Microsoft, Nextcloud allows you to host your own secure cloud server on your local hardware (like a PC or NAS) or a private Virtual Private Server (VPS).

The biggest differences in switching to Nextcloud include Data Control. You own and control your data entirely removing reliance on big tech. Nextcloud software is free to use. You pay only for the hardware or hosting you choose rather than ongoing per-user monthly subscription fees.

It supports end-to-end encryption ensuring your files cannot be accessed by outside corporations or unauthorized administrators. Nextcloud offers much more than file storage. It acts as an all-in-one productivity platform with built-in calendars, contacts and document collaboration tools.
