Does Qwant work on Windows Pale Moon?

Post by ron_1 » 2025-10-25, 12:00

So I was searching for a new search engine and decided to try out Qwant since the PM add on page has Qwant as a search plugin. So testing it out before adding the plugin, I got an access denied page (and this was on a clean profile with no extensions). It said:
Access blocked. We detected unusual activity from your device or network. Reasons may include:

Rapid taps or clicks
JavaScript disabled or not working
Automated (bot) activity on your network
Use of developer or inspection tools
I assume it either doesn't like Pale Moon, or my OS of choice, a Linux distro (or both). So I guess my question is to those who use Windows, does Qwant work with Pale Moon on Windows?

I added back the search bar and added Qwant just for this test, and it works for me on Pale Moon 33.9.1, 64-bit, Win 10. I'm also using a VPN and addons like uBO, eMatrix, Pure URL, etc.

Okay, so the evidence so far points that Qwant doesn't like Linux. Can I get a Linux user to test it out? You don't need to install the search plugin, just try to do a search on Qwant.

@ ron_1

I went to the Qwant website and had to "jump through hoops" in order to try a search on it. The "requirements" were mostly for advertising data/profile and I chose not to allow that.

After solving the "puzzle", it refused me because it said there was usually activity on my network. My ISP is Comcast so I think since I didn't want Qwant to follow me around and create a profile on me, this was the "REAL" reason I was refused a search for "surfing longboards".

At this time I am using 64 bit linux Pale Moon (GTK2) 33.9.1 running in 64 bit MX Linux 23.6 (Libretto) Xfce.

I retried it with all cookies allowed and again I got the access denied page, but it does work on Chromium. So it works:

1) with Pale Moon on Windows
2) with other browsers on Linux

But not on Pale Moon with Linux.

Hello,

Works for me without any problem with Pale Moon 33.9.1 on Mageia Linux 8, 64 bits.

Well this is perplexing. Anyway, I just decided to replace Swisscows with Ecosia (I still use DDG as my main search engine).
