Codeweavers is a company. They contribute to Wine and have a variant called CrossOver.

To be honest, I still like and use CCleaner - enhanced by CCEnhancer. It hasn't changed that much, besides the added data-collection crap.

Always sticking with the portable version thus avoiding their cunning installer, blocking its various background tasks, connection attempts and disabling the relevant "Privacy" etc. settings.

But yes, another big problem here for the Internets.
I use CCleaner Technician Edition. However, I block CCleaner from sending out any information from my PC and update it manually.

Thanks for this information!!

IMHO, the best version of ccleaner was the last one before they started messing with phoning home and other stuff. V. 4.17.4808.

Also tried bleachbit & privazer, both very interesting.

I believe this to be true, I have never installed additional antivirus protection on my Windows computers and haven't had problems for not doing so. There are justifications for switching to Linux, but for educated users to get relief from malware is not one of them.
YES!! It's as if I wrote this myself.
Very happy to see others out here who not only think like us, but do what we do and don't do what we don't do.
40+ years no problem.

The only time I ever touched AV stuff was when I was Admin for companies which deemed it mandatory.
All those definitions and the extra work that was involved.....whoa.

I knew we could do that, but I guess I didn't want to have to do an extensive registry snapshot/comparison/before/after.
That's why I stuck with earlier portable version.

I'm wondering what these newer versions bring to the table that this older version 4.17.x doesn't have?

I wonder if these sneaky programs (or any program) can "phone home" using system processes like svchost.exe and others. That would make blocking the obvious ones e.g. CCleaner64.exe pointless.

To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if windows programs of any kind did this even some open source ones.

I would love to be wrong though
