First, I'm not a coding expert, so if I state things in an inaccurate way, please forgive me. Second, I did a search but only found this which doesn't go into any detail. On another forum someone posted a link to another article about the possible demise of Mozilla due to the US government going after Gooble. According to the article, 86% of Mozilla's profits came from their deal with Google. Here's the question, if Mozilla goes into the abyss of oblivion, how would that affect Pale Moon? Doesn't most of the knowledge about security threats and how to patch those threats come from Mozilla? My understanding is that there is still a lot of code in Pale Moon from Mozilla. So I'm curious how this possibility, if it happens, would affect Pale Moon.
BTW, here's the link to said article: Why Google's legal troubles could hasten Firefox's slide into irrelevance
If Mozilla goes into the abyss of oblivion . . .

The government may want to break up Google, but actually doing so is another thing. In other words, there will be lawsuits (US Government and Google) on both sides and the endless amount of appeals before a "final" verdict is reached and comes into play.

It's important to note that Firefox is not the same as Mozilla. Mozilla is simply the name of a non-profit organization which spends money on many things unrelated to Firefox. And Firefox receives code contributions by many people who are not Mozilla employees.ron_1 wrote: ↑2024-12-10, 21:22Here's the question, if Mozilla goes into the abyss of oblivion, how would that affect Pale Moon? My personal opinion is that if Mozilla dies due to lack of Google funding, Firefox development will continue under some new community development model. We saw the same thing in 2010 when tech mega-corporation Oracle decided to stop developing the OpenOffice suite of office programs, which was the world's 2nd most popular office suite at the time. The developer community took over and forked OpenOffice to be LibreOffice, which since that time has seen much better development than it ever did under Oracle's oversight and has gained in market share.

I think it will be a good thing to break ties with google. There's lots of software, including browsers, being developed independently. And it would be getting back closer to what Firebird started as, back when it was fun.
