This is kind of what I was trying to hint at... that we're in this frustrating place right now where most of the alternatives to Google are not able to deliver Google-quality search results, but Google itself is also getting worse and harder to use because Google has no real competition and no incentive to improve. So what we're getting is a world where it's harder and harder to find things in general no matter what you use, because nothing can catch up to Google while Google's own experience degrades.LuftWafflePilot wrote: ↑2024-08-15, 19:12So after using Google for about a week, I remembered another reason why I switched to DDG: It's so fucking slow in PM I want to smash things. just like Youtube and FB, it's a complete pathetic lag fest.
And what's more, the retards changed it so that you get "all" results by default instead of web, so instead of let's say questionably ordered search results I get a full page of pictures, video previews, shopping shit and whatnot, followed by actual links you'd expect. That also makes the whole thing even more laggy than before. I couldn't find any setting that would change the default category to "web" (there's a tab/link for that at the top of the page).
Fuck this shit.
Really, WTF are they thinking?
I'm not saying you have a moral obligation to use DDG or anything else, you totally don't. But the whole mentality of "use Google because it works and everything else sucks," is how we got here in the first place, and continuing to do it won't change anything. If you're happy with Google... fine, no need to advertise it, I'm sure millions of people are happy with it. But people here are more in the camp of wanting to resist Google at the cost of inconveniencing themselves, so don't be surprised if you get some push back when you tell people they should just "be practical and use Google." That is what 99% of the world does anyway, that's the default. It's not even an interesting thing to say... that's why they call a search "Googling."
Like, sure, sometimes if I can't find a result on Bing or any other alternative, I might check on Google, but it's a last resort. Sort of like if I can't get a website to work in Pale Moon, I'll fire up Edge or Firefox instead. It's like, you do what you can, you know? That's how I've always seen it.
