News feed appeared on google.com?

Unread post by jez9999 » 2023-10-12, 07:49

Today, a news feed seems to have started appearing on the google.com main page below the main search box, if I'm logged in. Is anyone else getting this?

Search plugins have ensured that it's around 20 years since I went to the front page of any search engine to use it; if I hadn't ditched Google for Startpage long ago.

I'm not logged in to Google.

When I click on my Google bookmark, it takes me to Google and there are no news feeds on the page.

At this time, I'm using 64 bit linux Pale Moon 32.4.1 running in 64 bit linux Mint 21.2 (Victoria) Xfce with uBlock Origin 1.16.4.30 enabled.

OK, looks like it was a setting that got turned on somehow. I had to go to Google's settings | other settings, and turn off "show Discover on home page".

I presume it is a new feature that is being tested in some regions only? I am logged into Google and that news feed isn't on my search page, and the option that you turned off is not in the Other Settings.
