CCleaner And Pale Moon
I know that Pale Moon is based on Firefox, but is anyone else surprised that CCleaner knows to look into the Moonchild Productions folder?
I presume that is the only way that CCleaner can list the Pale Moon add-ons that I have?

Re: CCleaner And Pale Moon
CCleaner works very well with Pale Moon... just beware of the 'Bookmarks Backups' setting under CCleaner's 'Applications > Firefox' list... tick that box and CCleaner will 'helpfully' (not very) delete all your Pale Moon (and Firefox) Bookmarks backups... see previous topic on subject: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=28384&p=228243
Also recommend CCleaner's 'Slim' version from: https://www.ccleaner.com/ccleaner/builds. AFAICS CCleaner's recent versions are mostly to do with Windows 11, Windows Store, and a lot of other software not present on any of my machines... so happily stick with older 'Slim' versions here.

I agree. I have been using CCleaner for almost 20 years. It works marvelously with Palemoon in Firefox mode. Primarily I use CCleaner to clear the internet cache in my browsers via custom settings. History files are relatively small so I don't clear browsing history. Here are some screen shots of CCleaner installed on my laptops.

Haha no problem. Lemme know if there is anything else I can help you with?
The link I posted should help. I remember there was one really dodgy finding with ccleaner, but I forgot what is was exactly, and couldn't find the article I was thinking of, but the one I posted is one for concern already

Re: CCleaner And Pale Moon
I got rid of CCleaner shortly after Avast took it over. Replaced it with Wise Care 365.

Re: CCleaner And Pale Moon
Thanks for the head-up. I have been vaguely aware of the problematic reputation of CCleaner, but have always used the Portable Apps version to feel "safer" and it is never installed, running all the time, or doing it's own updating.
I mainly use it for the Tools, Startup area which I have found very easy to use, shows more than the Startup tab of Task Manager, and where on my Laptop 2 I really need to minimise (see its spec in my Signature) background stuff.
So I will keep in mind your and any other suggestions in the event that I have problems with CCleaner, or some new scandal arises!

Re: CCleaner And Pale Moon
suzyne, the info fatboy pointed us to is pretty old. I think some of that no longer applies. CCleaner's situation is not ideal but not sure it's as bad as some make it out.

Re: CCleaner And Pale Moon
As someone who has used several different unpopular browsers, and more than once has been told you shouldn't use X or Y for one reason (often from the past) or another, I take on board such comments as options (since I love being made aware of unfamiliar programs!) for the future.
Right now, CCleaner is doing right by me, but if that situation changes, I won't hesitate to try something different.

Thanks for the info. I run my AV on manual. So all of CCleaners attempts to send out any information remains blocked. I do all installations of CCleaner offline as well.fatboy wrote: ↑2023-09-28, 03:37You guys should really not be using CCleaner
