Mozilla Icons?

Unread post by slendertechofficial » 2023-07-01, 16:21

So, I noticed in Firefox and older builds of Thunderbird, there are certain icons that Mozilla used. Is there anywhere that I can download their official icons from this time period (2010)?
Firefox:

Sunbird:

Thunderbird:

Also, what font is used for the UI in Pale Moon? Segoe UI possibly? Maybe Fira Sans?
Thanks in advance for any help! :)

Re: Mozilla Icon Pack?

Ideally you would have been able to find all the old Mozilla icon sets at: http://iconpacks.mozdev.org/

But as that site long gone AFAIAA... you might get lucky finding live links amongst the hundreds of site captures on WayBackMachine (WBM)... and see if some of those have onward live links to some of the captured icon packs? (BTW - WBM will attempt to find the onward live links itself if you click a link on a captured page... however this can take a while... and if you get an onward link it may not be anything like the same date as captured page snapshot you started from.) Try: https://web.archive.org/web/20160801000 ... ozdev.org/

e.g. a WBM snapshot on 17 March 2016: https://web.archive.org/web/20160317132 ... index.html

Another approach would be to look for the source of icon packs used by current Firefox themers. Many retro themes for latest or recent Firefox versions are published... unsurprisingly including 'look-alike' old Firefox UI versions. Try searching Reddit subs like r/Firefox (just reopened 'sort of' after Reddit Mods 'dark protest' against API changes, old posts are searchable) and likewise r/FirefoxCSS... both often get new/updated Firefox themes posted.

Then need to research the theme maker's posts and/or GitHub to see where old icon set came from? In short, lots of legwork. :)

PS. You might find something of interest in Black7375's 'Firefox UI UX history' post: https://github.com/black7375/Firefox-UI ... UX-history

Another option would be to find a copy of the particular old Firefox/Thunderbird version you want to replicate... and extract the icons manually from the original Mozilla Firefox.exe installer file. Tested method using a copy of Firefox 4 saved on WayBackMachine (WBM): https://archive.org/details/mozilla-firefox-4.0-windows (Recommend an anti-virus scan of any files downloaded from WBM!)

Extract 'FirefoxSetup4.0.exe' using 7Zip utility > in resulting 'core' folder locate the 'omni.jar' file > rename to 'omni.zip' > extract using Windows built-in right-click 'Extract All...' utility (7Zip won't work this time see: MDN's about omni.ja/jar) > dig around in resulting 'omni' folder's extensive contents to locate the icons you want:

BTW - Same sort of method works to extract icons from current Firefox versions too. :)
