Could ChatGPT increase development for the Pale Moon browser?

Unread post by Baloo » 2023-02-04, 16:05

Just as the title says. Many developers are discussing how ChatGPT can generate very passable code very quickly. Under supervision, could this code generation be used to possibly teach ChatGPT how to code for XUL and maintain development of the browser in areas where others have failed?

Short answer? No.

Slightly less short answer:
ChatGPT and GPT in general are language models. They don't necessarily understand the underlying structure, methods and tasks involved in writing new code or adapting complex existing code.

It might help users make new plugins and GreaseMonkey add ons. From what I've seen, ChatGPT is useful when dealing with smaller code snippets.

Hardly code of any use. It also draws directly on indexed documents about XML and XUL, and doesn't require understanding of code -- just of syntax (which a language model would excel at)
