Password Backup Tool
Is there any chance Password Backup Tool for linux will be updated to work in 29.4.5 or later?
It is the only extension that is not working after a new install of Ubuntu 20.04.

Re: Password Backup Tool
Latest Password Backup Tool, v1.4.1 works fine for me in PM 29.4.5 (on Windows 7).
From its GitHub README, I gather the ability to import passwords from chromium browsers is Windows-only.
(Is that what doesn't work for you?)
Other than that, I would have thought if it works in Windows, it should also work in Linux.
Have you considered requesting support from the developer on GitHub? That would be the place to ask for help, the browser project doesn't provide extension support.

EDIT:
Is the BROWSER PROFILE also new? or did you revert from PM 30.* (re-use the previous profile) ? If you did, that might cause problems.
Re: Password Backup Tool
Thanks for replying coffeebreak.
I dual boot W10 and Ubuntu20.04 using Pale Moon as my main browser.
As long as I update from previous version to newest version my extensions continue to work.
This includes Iceweasels-Zoom Page 15.8 and githubs-Password Backup Tool 1.4.1.
I have a test computer I use to verify updates to Pale Moon before updating other computers.
Neither extension works on a clean install of OS.
PBT is simple as it is just click export or import and saves as xml.
After last weeks incident with Pale Moon I decided that I needed to experiment on saving my
profile and passwords as I have right at 80 of them as xml in case I should ever have to do a clean install.
I installed 28.9.3 Pale Moon on a clean install of both OS's and when I updated to 29.4.5 Zoom Page kept working but Password Backup tool stopped working.
Febe works for profiles but saves my passwords as json instead of xml. I cannot import them to Pale Moon.
Is there a way to convert xml to json or import json to Pale Moon.

Re: Password Backup Tool
You can't update directly from PM 28.9.3 to 29.4.5, due to changes in some storage formats .
You needed to do it in stages, first updating to PM 28.17.
Please read carefully through this document: http://developer.palemoon.org/docs/profile-migration/ .
Re: Password Backup Tool
Thanks coffeebreak.
Don't know why I didn't think of that. Will try that later.

Re: Password Backup Tool
Will add here, just in case the OP (or anyone) doesn't know...
Updating from an older version of Pale Moon to a newer-but-not newest version cannot be done through the automated update system. It must be done manually using the full installer for the desired version (here, 28.17).
Full installers (for 28.*, 29.*) can be downloaded from Pale Moon's Archive of older releases.
28.17.0 binaries are found here: https://archive.palemoon.org/palemoon/28.x/28.17.0/ .

Re: Password Backup Tool
I have been very busy and have just read your pm and this message. Sorry for the pm, was going to post an answer here anyway.
I am 80 yrs old and the family and friends think that I am a genus as I have to keep their computers repaired. I don't tell them its you people here who make me a genus.
This is on a clean install of Ubuntu20.04.
Anyway I finally figured out how to update from old version to next version without updating to the newest version.
First I downloaded 28.10 tar.gz up to 28.17 tar.gz to 29.2 to my home folder.
I extracted 28.10 to home folder and opened the PM folder and clicked on PM icon and copied it to desktop. After opening PM
I downloaded Iceweasel's Zoom Page and then Password Backup Tool and installed them and made sure they were operating perfectly.
I then extracted the next version in home folder and deleted previous version and made sure both extensions were working right, which they were.
I repeated these steps for each version up to 29.0. to 29.2. As i could not find 29.3 or 29.4 I went ahead and used the "check for updates" and installed 29.4.5.1.
After removing passwords and importing passwords they all installed perfect. Zoom Page is also working.
I am sure someone may have have a simpler way to do this, but it works for me.
My next question is will this work the same on w10 as I dual boot both w10 & Ubuntu 20.04?

Re: Password Backup Tool
Just apply that in the other direction. Can't think why W10 would be different.coffeebreak wrote: ↑2022-03-27, 20:21

Why would the OS matter for this situation?
Try the installation process first, then see if you have problems.

I D/Led all PM windows installers(about 21of them) and opened the first one and it installed to Program files. After installing my two extensions, I then installed the next version. It upgraded to the same folder, so I did not have to delete the previous folder like in Ubuntu. I just had to install each update and check each as to version. Everything is working fine now. I am now at 29.4.5.1. Since I don't use Windows that much I don't have much to re-install.
Thanks coffeebreak for helping me learn something new.

Re: Password Backup Tool
Glad it all worked out.
Just to mention... I know you were using an abundance of caution (for sure, no harm in that), but AFAIU it wasn't really necessary to install every single version. As per the Profile Migration documentation, I believe you could have updated in just two stages:
1. from 28.9.3 (that you started with?) to 28.17.0;
2. then from 28.17.0 to the current release 29.4.5.1.
Re: Password Backup Tool
coffeebreak- I tried several of the installers for linux before finding 28.10 that would let my extensions work. I tried to update from 28.10 to 28.17 but my Password Backup tool stopped working. Same thing with 28.17 to 29.4.5.1. So I went update one by one. Didn't try it in windows. You know the old saying "Once bitten twice shy".
Maybe I'll try it on one of my other computers since Windows can't be transferred from one computer to another like linux.

Re: Password Backup Tool
I just tried upgrading Pale Moon in w10.
My present version was 29.4.5, but my two extensions did not work. Other extensions did work.
I then deleted the palemoon folder in programs file and installed 28.10 and my version came up with 28.10.
My theme was present along with my other extensions. I then D/Led Zoom Page and Password Backup Tool and restarted PM. Then made sure both were working.
I then jumped up to 28.17 and installed it. Both extensions kept working.
I installed 29.0 and made sure both extensions were working.
I then jumped to 29.4.5.1 and made sure both extensions were working.
All other extensions continued to be present along with my theme.
So I have learned a lot these last few days if I ever have to do this again.
