Cannot Login to Bank with PM

Unread post by larryg » 2021-06-29, 17:14

After recent upgrade to 29.2.1 - 64 bit, I can no longer login to my Bank - which always worked before. The bank site generated an error:
Oops, something went wrong. If you don't think you should have received this message, you can go back and try again, or you may contact Customer Service at ....

So I tried Microsoft Edge, which worked fine. Tried the Brave browser, and it logged in also without any problem

I'm a long-term PM user, and love it, but if too many sites stop working I'm going to have to either revert to an old build - or look to another browser, sorry to say  ....

Care to mention what bank (& the URL to its login page)?

Have you tried earlier PM?
(It could have been changes the bank made on their end that coincided with 29.2.1.)

Have you tested in a new, clean Profile?
Create the Profile, load your banks page & see if you can log in successfully?
(It could be something as simple as a stale cookie in your existing Profile.
[I happen to like stale cookies, but your bank may not.])

Well, apparently it was stale cookies :) ....
I did a "Clear Cache" and now I can log into the bank again.

Thanks to @therube for kicking me where it was needed, and sorry for raising a fuss over something I probably could have figured out myself - eventually....

An earlier version makes NO sense here therube.

He clearly understands that. He explicitly stated that it could have been a change the bank made coincidental to the Pale Moon release. The OP was blaming an update to Pale Moon and an easy way to test that is try an earlier version.

But since it makes no sense why even suggest it. Besides, profiles are NOT BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE. So all he is doing is asking a potentially uninformed or inexperienced user to corrupt their profile.

Off-topic:

Especially because the useragent would be even older, thus meaningless...

Unless the user agent isn't the issue.

Either way though, security would be outdated and thus not usable.

So yeah, what you say makes more sense than what therube said.

So the fact that therube's advice directly lead to the solution means nothing? If the problem were actually caused by a change in Pale Moon which does happen from time to time, testing a previous version is quite useful to confirm that. That isn't saying, "use the old version into perpetuity". It's merely diagnostic.

What change in Pale Moon.. He cleared cookies/cache.. That has nothing to do with any changes made since UXP happened cause we haven't touched it in quite some time.

I'm new to paleMoon29.4.1 for just few weeks but I never was able to login to my bank.
I always login via private window (FF,opera or chrome).
In PM one bank let me "login" but then display empty page
The other bank doesn't even show the login page.
... unless I wait ....wait.... and wait longer and just extra wait...
It can take more that a minute.
Of course it's totally useless to work that way.

Any thoughts?
thank you.

@asik12,
Support requests don't belong in this General Discussion board, and further shouldn't be tacked onto other support requests, let alone old ones.

Please first search on the names of your banks for recent existing threads, to see if your problem was already addressed for either bank.

If it wasn't, make two new threads in the Web Compatibility Support board, one for each website. Treat each bank as a separate issue.

Make sure to mention the name of each website in the thread title, and optimally also provide a link to the problem page.

Please carefully read and follow the instructions written in a light red box at the tops of pages in that board about providing console output, to facilitate people's ability to help with the problem.
