Website Doesn't Like 28.17, I Guess

Unread post by van p » 2020-12-26, 05:11

I went to a website today for the first time since I upgraded to 28.17.0. Getting to the site was no problem. When I tried to log on to my account, I received a "Device Verification" screen I don't remember seeing before. It asked me to type in a Verification Code the site had sent to me in an email.

The email said several things:
- Verification needed
- Please confirm your sign-in request
- We have detected an account sign-in request from a device we don't recognize.
- Device: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Goanna/4.7 Firefox/68.0 PaleMoon/28.17.0

So apparently there's something different about this User Agent more than just the version number. Either that or the site has recently changed how it evaluates browsers and what it's willing to accept.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

What site was it? Probably they mean 'we don't recognize this browser as one you have used before' as opposed to 'we have no idea what browser this is'. It's a regular safety feature to note any deviation in access patterns. You would get this also if you traveled to another city and then logged on using the usual Chrome/Firefox because your IP address would be different geographically from the ones you used before.

moonbat, the site is https://www.namecheap.com/. After reading your reply I tried 2 other browsers, with the same result. I forgot to mention I also tried Pale Moon several times hoping the site would start recognizing the situation as legitimate, but so far, no dice.

You don't even have to ask--mystery solved. Now I can rest easy/easily.
