You seem to have missed the point how utterly irrelevant Netscape is as a comparative browser in 2020.

I think he's just pointing out that Netscape is what birthed Mozilla, and then Firefox and Pale Moon.

Mozilla was an act of rebellion when Netscape was bought by AOL.

The Mozilla project was started in early 1998 as of the time Netscape released their browser source code to the public (became open source). AOL didn't purchase Netscape until more than 4 years later in the year of 2002.

After looking up the history of Netscape -- I was off on my year regarding the purchase of Netscape by AOL --- the anticipated deal was reported in the news at the end of the year 1998 and the "deal closed on March 17, 1999" as far as AOL purchasing Netscape. I was apparently recalling approximately when Netscape was basically shut-down which was actually around late 2003.

Seamonkey is a direct descendant so is possibly the oldest browser still maintained.

Seamonkey is descended from Mozilla Suite, so not a direct ancestral link.

Mozilla suite grew out of the same source code used as a basis for netscape.so yeah seamonkey is a lineal descendent if you like.
Seamonkey is still a good browser and is as fast as any of the "big players".

The Firefox shills claim Pale Moon is obsolete, that moniker applies more to Seamonkey as their future is uncertain. They are stuck on code based off Firefox 60 I think. Would've been better for them to switch their internals to UXP, but well

I absolutely agree and it would be a crying shame to see seamonkey fade off into the horizon.Firefox is now a bloated monster and is not really firefox anymore.
pale moon is what firefox should of been.

Pity the seamonkey council could not team up with pale moon in some way.

Pale Moon is the true successor to Firefox, as far as I am concerned.

There's IceApe, which is essentially a Seamonkey style mail-browser suite built on UXP but it is only built for Hyperbola.

It's not like I didn't reach out to various other parties for cooperation, though, but people were simply not interested in cooperating (and some were outright hostile).

Well, they made their bed with Mozilla. It's worked out so well. :coffee:
Though it would've been a major shot in the arm for Pale Moon if they had also adopted UXP.

So in effect in the future seamonkey will have shot themselves in the foot as it will be nothing more than a firefox clone.

It's not a Firefox clone. It has a browser, a mail/news client, an IRC client and a HTML editor - Firefox has no equivalent for the other components. The base foundation is still the Mozilla application platform with XUL/XPCOM that has now been gotten rid of in favor of whatever Rust-y abomination they're making. Mozilla has in effect killed off their application platform, so it is impossible for Seamonkey to develop core features further.
