Pale Moon forum

Any insight into trouble playing Youtube videos on Windows 8.1 using Palemoon and Chrome?

When I start playing a video it hangs, with an eventual prompt to "restart my device."

Sometimes they will play, but pausing them usually causes the same problem.

I tried uninstalling / reinstalling Shockwave.

Any input on this would be much appreciated!

You didn't mention Chrome in your other thread. If you are unable to play videos in Chrome also, then you have a system level video playback issue, and not just with Pale Moon.

It was unresolved (see 2nd to last post on that one), perhaps because it was not a Palemoon-specific enough of an issue (?), so here I am on the General Discussion Forum, hoping for some basic insight on what seems like a stupid-simple problem... yes I know I didn't mention Chrome in the other post.

Now reading the forum guidelines of this forum, i guess it too is unsuitable. Perhaps there is no venue here for this question. If that is true, please delete both threads.

I wonder if it would be possible to combine the two threads, and perhaps keep it here in General Discussion...?

Yes, that possibility had occurred to me after posting. In any case, something I just noticed that could be relevant to this somehow is that VLC media player also hangs for 10 seconds before playing. I concur that this is likely a lower-level issue at play (no pun).
