Forum rules
This General Discussion board is meant for topics that are still relevant to Pale Moon, web browsers, browser tech, UXP applications, and related, but don't have a more fitting board available.
Please stick to the relevance of this forum here, which focuses on everything around the Pale Moon project and its user community. "Random" subjects don't belong here, and should be posted in the Off-Topic board.

It was my browser of choice until The Great XUL Betrayal by Mozilla, post which I switched to Palemoon. I like the whole concept of a suite, and simply having a dedicated email and IRC client linked to the browser, where clicking on a mailto or IRC link would open those components.
There's
this mega thread whose last few posts seem to indicate that the project is winding down, with just maintenance and security fixes and even those getting delayed.
Sad to see the carpet yanked out from under them, given that even Thunderbird is being stripped of its XUL core. There are times I wish Palemoon and Fossamail could've been combined as an alternative to SM as well

Nothing new really....
They try to stay afloat somewhat - but are unwilling to fully break away from Mozilla code-wise - without biting in the bitter apple, forking and going on as separate entity - one can only go on until Mozilla makes it impossible to go forward without losing all what made your own product unique.
That is what Seamonkey is facing, that is what Waterfox is facing.

SeaMonkey != Firefox + Thunderbird.

SeaMonkey is in no better nor worse shape then it's been in for quite a while now.
SeaMonkey will continue on, pretty much as in, for some time yet.
There will be a (final) 2.49.5 [FF 52, so last to support XP] release forthcoming.
There likely will be a 2.53 [FF 56] (interim, if you want to call it that) release forthcoming.
After that... not quite clear how things will go.

You can do that without having a Suite. Pale Moon and other FF derivatives have the ability to add custom URI handlers so that the browser will pass that URI off to the appropriate program. The difference is that those standalone programs need to be configured as URI handlers on your OS, and most of the time this happens automatically when you install them.

Because this has been discussed before and and doing so again will only serve to create bad blood with people.
