Trouble deleting old profile (master password) after fresh reinstall

Post by sad_lil_foxgirl » 2025-11-10, 23:40

This is my first post on here so, hi all! :D I'm usually a little shy so more of a lurker on forums but I've been using pale moon off an on for about a year~ish and really love it; however I've stumbled across an issue that I'd really appreciate some advice on. I'm sorry if this is a common question but is there anyway to "reset" my whole profile on pale moon after a fresh reinstall?

I hadn't logged in for a while and seem to have forgotten the master password I'd set on my current desktop. Since I manually mirrored my bookmarks folder between Firefox (for school, etc) and Pale Moon, I thought "No worries, I needed to update my bookmarks on Pale Moon anyway! I'll just reinstall Pale Moon and delete the old cache." But upon reinstall all my settings are still the same and unfortunately that means the old master password is still being requested.

I don't really mind reloading my bookmarks, passwords and settings, I just can't do much on it with out the password and I know it's not possible to "reset" the password for security reasons. Is there a hidden cache that I forgot to delete perhaps? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thnx! :D

You can go to about:profiles, create a new profile and set that one as the default. Except for the last step I do this whenever I need to quickly create a fresh profile. Alternatively you can start Pale Moon with the -p switch (from the command line that would be something like palemoon.exe -p and palemoon -p for Windows and *nix respectively) to show the profile manager first which would also allow you to create a new profile from there.
