Do not tell sites anything about my tracking preference

Post by cartel » 2018-07-01, 23:51

Is that setting going to be back?
The main reason I use PM is not to be tracked, no telmetry, no data reports, no webrtc, no garbage.

I hope this motive hasn't changed.

Websites don't really respect that setting anyway. I don't know that they ever have.

The option to tell sites that you do want to be tracked was removed, because it was useless. Keep that box unticked to not tell them jack s***, tick it to tell them not to track you (which, as EbonJaeger said, is of dubious efficacy).

Say, Cartel, are you planning to make a thread about EVERY minute change made to Pale Moon? Because I'd rather you didn't.

@Moonchild this comes to mind: https://xkcd.com/1172/

Some people just want no change ever, and that's why XP is still a thing. :/

Yeah, it's just that I don't want to be forced to explain the rationale behind every change, and ending up spending more time discussing it (because the rationale will never be accepted without resistance) than actually doing work.

As for this particular change, it's really simple: they will track you whether you say "do track me" or don't tell them anything. The only time it makes a difference if you say "don't track me" and the server honors that request. So there's effectively no difference between "yes" and sending no header. It's an opt-out mechanism.
