Strange new issue with latest 28.0.0b1 and new DDG tabs Topic is solved
Strange new issue with latest 28.0.0b1 and new DDG tabs
So I upgraded last night to the latest 28. I use TMP to make new tabs open instead of in the same tab with this setup.
But now if I open a link it not only opens the new tab but opens that same link in the original DDG tab at the same time.
I even tried to force it to open all links in new tabs and it still does the same thing.
I also tried the latest nightly build and have the same issue. So something in the latest PM 28 has changed this behavior.
So now, the only way I can get things in DDG to open in a new tab is to right click them and open in new tab. Aaarg.
Edit: Ok, so this seems to be very specific to only DDG. I have tried looking at their settings but nothing fixes this.
Everything else works normal.
On a side note, I tried disabling TMP to see if it still had the same issue and it killed Tree style tabs.
Nothing I did in TST settings would bring it back until I re-enabled TMP. How weird is that?
If I open a DDG search, normally if I click on any link it will open the link in a new tab and leave the DDG tab alone. But now if I open a link it not only opens the new tab but opens that same link in the original DDG tab at the same time.

Unless this is a problem that occurs without your tab extensions loaded, you have to talk to the extension devs.

My problem is that my keyboard is not right at my fingertip but moved out of the wayWhat about Ctrl+clicking?
unless I actually need to use it. So that's a no go. I will just have to right click from now on.

How about a middle-click?Thehandyman1957 wrote:My problem is that my keyboard is not right at my fingertip but moved out of the way

Re: Strange new issue with latest 28.0.0b1 and new DDG tabs
I have sent a email to the author of TMP asking him if he could take some time to look at why
TMP isn't working with the latest build of PM 28. I don't hold to much hope in this one, but who knows.
This is a really important add on for me, especially now that I realize that Tree Style Tabs won't work without it
in PM 28.
I'm going to download the portable version of 28 and start with a new profile and fiddle around a bit to
see if this may be a profile issue.

Re: Strange new issue with latest 28.0.0b1 and new DDG tabs
So, it turns out that with the exception of dragging a link to the tab bar, TMP works just fine
on PM 28 with a new profile with DDG. So now I'm down to TST.
This seems to be a profile setting somewhere.

Re: Strange new issue with latest 28.0.0b1 and new DDG tabs
I have received a email from the folks at TMP. They have fixed the issue with
not being able to drag the link to the tab bar. I don't think they have released it
yet but I did ask them. Will keep you posted.

Re: Strange new issue with latest 28.0.0b1 and new DDG tabs
TMP Update: They sent me a link to test the newest version for PM and everything worked great
except the hide tab bar. Once hidden, you could not get it back upon hovering. To get my tabs back
I had to revert to normal tab bar behavior. I sent them a email letting them know this and I await their response.
On a side note. The new TMP completely breaks TST with no way to fix. Since at this point there is no one
that is able to look into TST or fork it. I have finally just had to give up TST all together. But on a high note,
I did find a small light at the end of this tunnel by finding "Thin Tabs 1.6" and that, between TMP has given me
the best compromise I could find on trying to minimize the space used by the tab bar. Now I just need to quite looking at my right arm when my watch is on the left. LOL
Hopefully, TMP will figure out how to get the "hide tab bar" fixed and that will be even better.

Re: Strange new issue with latest 28.0.0b1 and new DDG tabs
Using standard built-in features, here's how I've set up the top of my browser, without having to use an extension to modify toolbars. Would this be sufficient for your purposes?
There's a right way
There's a wrong way

Re: Strange new issue with latest 28.0.0b1 and new DDG tabs
No, not really. I don't want any text, just the icon. I would prefer to not see them at all
unless I need them. I'm still not sure if I'm going to be able to handle this. I keep wanting to
click on things in what used to be my tab bar. It may be that I just use the older version
of TMP and deal with the few quirks, as I can live with that more than this new way. The sad part about losing TST is that it allowed me
to hide that tab bar on the right hand side of my 2nd monitor and thus I did not inadvertently have
it pop up when moving my mouse around like I would if it was hidden on the top. It had some great
features like only showing for so many milliseconds while loading a new tab. I could control how much
space was required before actually causing it to open on hover. It would place relevant tabs next to the
tab it had opened from. It had a great transparent bar that allowed the normal color of the page
I was on without being to obtrusive. This was way more than just looks.
Here is a older screen shot of the way I have had it for what seems like forever.
Sadly, there is nothing else out there that even comes close. Sigh
