Proton mail doesn't like Basilisk?

Post by kiwikid » 2026-01-26, 01:41

I just went to Proton[dot]me to investigate their email offerings, and got told
"Your browser is unsupported"
On the -more-info- page they admit that Palemoon works (but not on their recommended list), and advise
"The browser you are using must support the Web Cryptography API in order to work with the encryption we use."

I'm not able to replicate that. I was able to sign into my ProtonMail account just fine in Basilisk and was able to send myself a test email with no issues. I did not see any messages stating my browser isn't supported either.

I just signed into protonmail myself, in palemoon. Like an hour ago.

So... yeah, I don't know why Basilisk Browser wouldn't be the same.

Although its also worth noting, I do have modify http response set to block certain useragent sniffers. discourse is one of them.

I cannot say what i think is happening and be sure.

Maybe palemoon is updated more often and that helps it get fixed quicker.

Although its also possible basilisk browser does work and you have some addon enabled or setting enabled that isnt good.

Feel free to enlighten me.

Sorry, PEBCAK.
I have Cookie Master, with default cookies blocked, and I'm slowly building up a whitelist.
I don't have a Proton acct, I was just looking to see what's involved.
Most sites will say: You must have cookies enabled,
so this Web Cryptography API message threw me off balance.

All good now, sorry for the disturbance.
