The BIG list of Basilisk themes

Here is a list of old Firefox themes that work with Basilisk. I searched here for Firefox themes targeting version 52 (hereafter FF52), which I believe is the fork point of Basilisk.

I got the idea from this comment.

Notes

• I did very limited, Linux-only, testing; the GTK2 theme I was using when I took the screenshots was Raleigh (widget and icons): this will mostly affect the tabbar and some icons.
• This is not an exhaustive list, I didn’t go beyond page 6, and I might’ve missed a few.
• I had to use an add-on called Serpent Tester Tool to install incompatible themes, when that was the case I left a note in the Comment line.
• I’ll probably have to split this due to limited number of attachments.

How to install

• Right click the version compatible with Basilisk, it may be the Latest version or the Latest version supporting FF52, either way it is written with the Basilisk green.
• Click Save Link As… and save the .xpi anywhere.
• Open the Add-ons Manager (about:addons), click the little gear in the upper right corner, choose Install Add-on From File… and select the .xpi file you just downloaded.

One more thing, for completeness sake:

Installing old Firefox lightweight themes/personas in Basilisk

One can still use the personas of the old Firefox in Basilisk (and Pale Moon I guess):

• Open this site and click the persona(s) you want: either by hovering over the thumbnail and clicking Add; or by opening the persona’s page and clicking Add to Firefox.
• A message will appear saying that “This site (web.archive.org) attempted to install a theme”; click Allow.
• There won’t be any image though, because the site (addons.cdn.mozilla.net) that was hosting them is offline, but fortunately there is another site that still hosts them, so to fix that:
• Go to about:config and search for the preference lightweightThemes.usedThemes. Right click it and choose Modify.
• Change every occurrence of cdn.mozilla to thunderbird (you can copy the code to a text editor, search and replace the strings and paste it back in the pref).
• Go to the Themes tab of the Add-ons Manager (about:addons) and disable and enable the persona you want to use.

Thank you for putting in the work to test these themes for everyone. Some of these have actually been forked for Pale Moon compatibility and show up on the Pale Moon addons site as well.

It might be worth forking these and uploading to the Basilisk addons site (verify the license of the code and branding of each theme first)

The Pale Moon versions of the themes would need a lot of work to bringup for Basilisk. While it's basically just the browser/ dir on each theme that needs changing for Basilisk, any potential theme dev would probably want to just copy over the same directory from the Firefox theme instead (at least as a starting point). I did however go through the process with Photonic, such that Pale Moon and Basilisk are both supported.

Pull requests are welcome if anyone wants that task for other themes. I've not the time for it unfortunately.
