Now before going over my issue I have to admit that I am on an unsupported platform: Windows Vista SP2 x64 with the extended kernel installed.
Now that we got that out of the way, here's what's going on: I've had playback issues for videos and similar types of media and when I go to about:support and scroll down to "Hardware H264 Decoding" it tells me "No; Failed to create H264 decoder". I have the K-Lite codec pack installed and can confirm it is functional and same for the media foundation codecs that were bundled with the extended kernel.
Any help towards guiding me in the right direction would be appreciated.

Maybe your graphics card doesn't support hardware decoding for that codec.
Which one do you have?
Be aware that you are running an old-ass OS from 2006.
