Linux, GTK2: issue with site https://basilisk-browser.org

Post by Mark-PM » 2024-09-14, 12:49

Hello,
Not a great issue but strange anyway: coming from the current release announcement (https://forum.palemoon.org/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=31590) i opened the release notes (https://basilisk-browser.org/releasenotes.shtml and observed a very high CPU consumption.
This effect/issue does not concern PaleMoon (on Linux), Basilisk on Windows (nor Roytam's ,fork' - if of any interest).
Thus exclusively Basilisk on Linux (Debian 11 based in this case).
The screenshot was made with the last version (2024.08.11) of Basilisk, to falsify: it's not an issue that came with the new release.
Many thanks for your works on the new relase btw @ Basilisv-Dev.

For me, it gets ~55% of the CPU idle (Linux GTK2, didn’t test with Pale Moon).

I think it’s relate to the background gradient effect: when I scroll down off that background the CPU consumption lowers; and if I just delete that “@keyframes HueRotate {…}” part of the CSS style it lowers too.

If you don't have hardware acceleration then this can be a taxing effect. If it doesn't occur with Pale Moon, then try enabling HWA in Basilisk as well :)

Thanks for your replies gabrgv and moonchild!

HW acceleration is enabled in the Preferences section; below i added a list of my 'acceleration' entries in 'about:config'.
The GPU is an internal Intel HD 530: 'about:support' tells:

WebGL 1 Driver Version: 4.6 (Compatibility Profile) Mesa 20.3.5
Asynchronous Pan/Zoom: none

Have a nice sunday!
