Language support for German

Unread post by Torsten » 2024-01-31, 10:31

Hi, I am a native German speaking retired scientist (electronics engineer) and maybe I can help to build German language support for Basilisk.

My platforms are Debian with XFCE4 and in case of emergency also MS Windows 11.

Please let me know, whether, and if so, how i can support…

Regards

Torsten

Sounds great, I'd be happy to help support you in making a German language pack for Basilisk.

I would start by forking the Iceweasel-UXP German language pack: https://pagure.io/iceweasel-uxp-l10n/bl ... rbola.info

Iceweasel-UXP is a fork of an older version of Basilisk. There are some text strings that have changed since the fork was done so there will be some work to ensure that all text strings are localized.. You'll also need to change all instances of Iceweasel-UXP to Basilisk obviously.

Thank you first. I have to apologize for the delay, but I caught a flue and was offline some days…
I managed to download the folder langpack-de@iceweasel-uxp.hyperbola.info containing the german langpack.
I up to now changed any occurence of 'Iceweasel-UXP' to 'Basilisk'.
I do not know, how to make a fork on the GIT repository.
I do not know, how to check the correctness of the langpack. And, if not, how to adjust the flaws…

Please advise.
Thx in advance.

Create a new Git repository on https://repo.palemoon.org/ and push your code to your new repository.

Have you tried installing what you have so far into Basilisk? A good first step would be to try installing your forked langpack and seeing if it causes the browser to break.
