Basilisk 2023.04.04 Released!
Basilisk 2023.04.04 has been released! Please note that all the non-Windows builds will report their build versions as 2023.04.05.
This release uses the same UXP platform version as Pale Moon 32.1.0. This release introduces the same WebComponents support that was introduced in Pale Moon 32.1.0.
As part of this release we have introduced beta builds for FreeBSD, Intel macOS, ARM64 macOS, and aarch64 Linux builds (thanks dbsoft!).
See the release notes for more information.
See the downloads page to download the update.

Great work! Thank You for the update, Basilisk and Pale Moon for the win.
Off-topic:
I was wondering, is there anyway people can donate to you for developing this browser?

Thanks a bunch, this is a really huge step ahead, unfortunately the issue with Photonic theme is still present, hopefully it will be fixed with a major UXP update.

Are you referring to the restart issue where the browser takes a while to close in the background?Wastelander wrote: ↑2023-04-05, 17:29Thanks a bunch, this is a really huge step ahead, unfortunately the issue with Photonic theme is still present, hopefully it will be fixed with a major UXP update.

Yes, still not resolved, that's a pity because I really love the Photonic theme

Re: Basilisk 2023.04.04 Released!
I appreciate the offer, but I ask that you donate to the Pale Moon project instead.
The Pale Moon team is a lot more involved in the development of the UXP platform than I am (I am not proficient in C/C++) and by donating to Pale Moon you are supporting the development of Pale Moon, Basilisk, Epyrus, and any other application that decides to build upon the UXP codebase in the future.

Great release.
However,
FEBE Plugin does not work in Basilisk: https://addons.basilisk-browser.org/addon/febe/
And what would you recommend as a replacement to Pale Moon's Pure URL? https://addons.palemoon.org/addon/pureurl4pm/
Thank You

There's an older version 3.3 on the Pure URL releases site that installs ok on Basilisk and seems to work: https://addons.palemoon.org/releases/pureurl4pm/credible wrote: ↑2023-04-07, 18:49And what would you recommend as a replacement to Pale Moon's Pure URL? https://addons.palemoon.org/addon/pureurl4pm/
I don't know the difference between version 3.3 and the current version 3.3.3, possibly @moonbat will come along to this thread and give more info.

Thanks for the link, I also found Pure URL extension in Classic Add-ons Archive, with the latest release in 2017.andyprough wrote: ↑2023-04-07, 21:21There's an older version 3.3 on the Pure URL releases site that installs ok on Basilisk and seems to work: https://addons.palemoon.org/releases/pureurl4pm/credible wrote: ↑2023-04-07, 18:49And what would you recommend as a replacement to Pale Moon's Pure URL? https://addons.palemoon.org/addon/pureurl4pm/

If you USS Basilisk, do you experience issues with FEBE plugin? Works fine with Pale Moon, but not with Basilisk.

Thanks again for the release.Basilisk-Dev wrote: ↑2023-04-05, 14:31Basilisk 2023.04.04 has been released! Please note that all the non-Windows builds will report their build versions as 2023.04.05.

To sum up, FEBE backup plugin does not work, Pure URL add-on works from Pale Moon extensions directory and only older one, build 3.3.
I'm also interested if HTTPS Everywhere or similar plugin is recommended on Basilisk or do you already include functionalities of such plugins?

Yes, above all i would welcome more "modern" themes like, indeed, Photonic, but for the time being it's unlikely, one of the main theme developers has also said that he won't create any new themes, just casual mantainence.credible wrote: ↑2023-04-08, 12:04More themes would be awesome.Wastelander wrote: ↑2023-04-06, 08:39https://addons.basilisk-browser.org/addon/photonic/Basilisk-Dev wrote: ↑2023-04-06, 00:16Where did you get that theme? Is Basilisk Dev a single person providing updates for all different platforms or is there Basilisk team like Moonchild team?Wastelander wrote: ↑2023-04-08, 16:08Yes, above all i would welcome more "modern" themes like, indeed, Photonic, but for the time being it's unlikely, one of the main theme developers has also said that he won't create any new themes, just casual mantainence.credible wrote: ↑2023-04-08, 12:04More themes would be awesome.Wastelander wrote: ↑2023-04-06, 08:39https://addons.basilisk-browser.org/addon/photonic/Basilisk-Dev wrote: ↑2023-04-06, 00:16Where did you get that theme? Re: Basilisk 2023.04.04 Released!
Unfortunately there are a lot of addons that supported Basilisk in the past that dropped their support when Moonchild originally dropped development of the Basilisk project. I've contacted a few of those addon developers and submitted PRs to reinstate Basilisk support but so far I have not gotten a single response from anyone.
For example, I submitted this PR to the Pure URL addon 8 months ago.

I am a single person. dbsoft supplied the builds for ARM Linux, Mac, and FreeBSD in the most recent Basilisk release, but other than that no one else has seemed to show any interest in helping out with Basilisk releases.

Re: Basilisk 2023.04.04 Released!
Your hard work is really appreciated. As Waterfox Classic development seems to be dropped, users would start searching alternatives and Basilisk looks exactly the same as Waterfox Classic.Basilisk-Dev wrote: ↑2023-04-09, 17:24Unfortunately there are a lot of addons that supported Basilisk in the past that dropped their support when Moonchild originally dropped development of the Basilisk project. Re: Basilisk 2023.04.04 Released!
I'm able to get the latest 3.3.3 version of Pure URL working on Basilisk 2023.04.05.
Steps:
1) Go to the Pure URL addon page on the Pale Moon site: https://addons.palemoon.org/addon/pureurl4pm/
2) Right-mouseclick on the "Install Now" button, choose "Save Link As", and save it to your favorite Downloads location
3) The file you downloaded is named 'pureurl4pm-3.3.3.xpi', rename it to 'pureurl4pm-3.3.3.zip'
4) Open it in your operating system's archive manager (usually just click on the pureurl4pm-3.3.3.zip file in a file manager)
5) Open the 'install.rdf' file in a text editor
6) Add a "Basilisk" block under the "Borealis Navigator" block near the bottom of the text file. The Basilisk block should contain this info:
Don't leave any blank lines and make sure your Basilisk entries line up with the entries for Borealis Navigator above it.
7) Save and close the text editor
8) Close the archive manager, and rename the Pure URL file from 'pureurl4pm-3.3.3.zip' to 'pureurl4pm-3.3.3.xpi' again
9) Drag and drop the pureurl4pm-3.3.3.xpi file onto an open instance of Basilisk, it should install now
