Is Basilisk available on MacOS?

Unread post by MrLuxury » 2021-02-10, 00:39

I am a Mac user and wondering if the new browser is available on MacOS? This is my first time to this browser as I am coming from Chrome.

Windows and Linux only. There are no plans for Mac.

There is a community Mac build that is several months old. It's recent enough to work with most sites. All builds will be made by community volunteers IF they feel like making them.

Old builds aren't recommended, they miss out on security updates.

And since it doesn't carry the branding it really isn't Basilisk anyway.

There shall not be any mac version of proper Basilisk so says the Moonchild.

On a personal note.. I think we should just remove Macintosh compatibility for the entire platform.

You mean that, in the future, should I try to port the source code, I will be stopped by a giant wall?

That's a bummer.

You won't be stopped by a giant wall because that is against the source code license. if you want to fork the source to build a different Mac browser from it then go right ahead.
But it shall not be called Basilisk, shall be branded significantly differently, and I shall not in any way be affiliated with whatever it will end up being.

You mean I could call it "Serpent Unofficial*"?

*based on Basilisk source code but unaffiliated with Moonchild

Call it whatever, give it a unique logo and artwork that can't be confused with Basilisk and most importantly make it clear to its users that they cannot come to these forums for assistance. Else it will be another 'New Pale (or whatever) for Windows XP' all over again for Mac.
