Now that Pale Moon 28 has been released on top of UXP, the question in my mind - what are the differences between Pale Moon and Basilisk, that would drive someone's decision to select one browser or the other.

I would assume that the back-end, and web compatibility should be very similar. Is it just the different visual style? Choice of add-ons? Anything else?

In my case i decided by the score on html5test.com, basilisk does 465 without adblock, pale moon did less, i'm wondering when we'll see basilisk getting an update on engine side of things (firefox 62, just the engine, no photon at all ;) ) to see this score and the compatibility go higher (i didnt see any post about this)

Here are the differences I can think of off the top of my head:
- Basilisk features an Australis-style interface, rather than the classic one from Pale Moon (if you prefer the classic UI on Basilisk, you can use the Classic Theme Restorer add-on).
- Basilisk supports EME, Speech Synthesis (though it's not used much), WebRTC, and gamepad control.
- Pale Moon is more stable and is generally the development focus of the project.
Off-topic:
The platform devs can probably answer this more accurately, but my understanding is that there probably won't be any major port of code from Firefox Quantum to UXP, since the codebases have diverged substantially since FF 52.

I generally prefer Pale Moon:
  • It has a better interface. (IMHO)
  • I can add extra toolbars without an extension.
  • Moon Tester Tool is a godsend.
  • Older abandondware themes like Red Cats (blue favor) work (with Moon Tester Tool and/or a little tweaking).
  • The newer themes look great, too, and the developers are responsive to user input.
  • It has its own add-ons site, plus there is the Classic Add-ons Archive.
  • There is only XUL. ;)

Pale Moon doesn't support using your microphone, and generally doesn't have as much compatibility with AMO addons compared to Basilisk (compensated by the fact that PM has its own addons ecosystem).

was using Basilisk before 28.x.x but now i think PM is the clear winner

Basilisk still misses the opportunity to switch languages, at least I cannot install and implement German language.

Basilisk will likely not get language packs for it. It's just not within its scope of development.

Version 6.1.0 of Red Cats (green flavor) works out of the box in Basilisk. I assume blue flavor does, too.

Version 6.0.0 is the latest one that works in PM, and as "gracious1" mentioned, it requires some tweaking to get it going.
