Website is crashing Basilisk 2018.04.27 (64-bit)

Post by rodndtube » 2018-05-01, 14:43

Website is crashing Basilisk. Noticed the rapid crash from PCWorld email and same thing happened when trying to access an article from the web version (shown below). Worked fine in the current version of Pale Moon and MS Edge. This appears to be the only website crashing Basilisk. Specifically the first article on Windows 10 April update -- several articles loaded normally.

It didn't crash for me, even after opening every article linked on the page.

Does it crash in safe mode, or with a new profile?

I can't get it to crash in any of the three UXP Applications in existence on Windows 7.. What version are you using?

Safe Mode works. So then I changed the Add-Ons Appearance from Qute 6++ (v.2.1.5) to the default Basilisk which accessed the article without issue. The article also crashed using Qute 5++ (v2.1.5). I have written the Qute author and included a list of Add-Ons being used.

I disabled several Add-Ons and the article continues to crash Qute 6++ with new Basilisk.
- Back to Top 8.0.1-signed.1-signed (Disabled)
- BibItNow! 0.823 (Disabled)
- Cite This! 0.20.1-signed.1-signed (Disabled)
- Classic Toolbar Buttons 1.6.0 (Disabled)
- Google Scholar Button 1.1.1-signed.1-signed (Disabled)
- Screengrab (fix version) 0.99.12 (Disabled)

UPDATE 2018-0501, 6pm Eastern: It is also crashing my Windows 7 Pro Machines with Basilisk v2018.04.27 (64-bit) and Qute 6++ v2.1.5.

The Qute 5/6++ developed replied to my email:

"I have confirmed the latest Basilisk on Windows 10. Basilisk is not compatible with Qute 5/6++ since does not use same version number with Firefox's one. It is a critical issue for Qute 5/6++ because they switch css files for each Firefox version."

Although Cute 6++ is working fine for me except for the subject file (and maybe other unknowns) is there a workaround on this. I often read about config.about and version lines, but please guide me on this if this a fix or if there is another fix. Thanks in advance!

The theme author, magicp, provided me with a patched working version of Qute 6++. Big smiles here. It is related to a video issue. I am using the browser to see if there are any other complications.

Let me guess, they are using platformVersion and not applicationVersion? Because Basilisk, internally for add-ons, DOES use an application version that is the same as Firefox (at least in major.minor parts)

The author of the Qute 5++/6++ theme has release the update and lists Basilisk and a few other note. More info here:

Thanks for everyone's assistance.
