Basilisk.2018.04.24 White Tab Bar Tab Text

Unread post by kelendral » 2018-04-25, 00:35

Updated to Basilisk 2018.04.24 (64bit) on Windows 10 64bit
Text for my tabs when Basilisk is active is now White in the tab bar which is virtually impossible to read at times.
If Basilisk is in the background, or even has a window open (even the About Basilisk dialog) then the text on the tabs is displayed correctly (black).

Any ideas where I might look to tweak/fix the issue or incompatibility. I know, could be hard given I have a host of addons but the configuration (near identical addon set) works in Pale Moon, and was working before.
I suspect the issue will be in some functionality used by Classic Theme Restorer and Tab Kit 2.

EDITS:
None of the text color options in CTR seem to have an impact on the tab text color. Bold/Italic options work.
Rolled back to 2018.03.21 - Tab text is correctly black when window is active. CTR options have same level of effectiveness so there was no change between versions there.
Rolled forward to 2018.04.24 again, tab text turns white when Basilisk is the active Window with focus for the main Window (as stated, in background, tabs are correctly black text, even just opening "About Basilisk" is enough but as soon as the dialog is closed the tab text again turns white for all open tabs in the tab bar

Since Basilisk was rebased from the different point of Mozilla codebase, CTR probably needs to be updated by its author. See the previous discussion on this topic.

I have exactly the same problem with the 32-bit version of Basilisk. This basilisk version is clearly a step backwards to me. Also because many addons no longer work or need to be reinstalled. There are also no more themes... I'm back to the last version.

Since Basilisk is my secondary (Pale Moon primary) I did the same and returned to 2018.03.21 for now.
I can't work without Tab Kit vertical tab bar, and on Basilisk that requires CTR. This issue makes that configuration non-workable. I've got both versions and a couple of profiles here to play with it this weekend though.

Same issue on 2018.04.26. Tried a few different CTR versions as far back as 1.6 and all have the issue when using the Squared Tabs (classic) which is what Tab Kit needs.

Strange, CTR works fine for me in Basilisk, both the tab style and the text color. Tested it on 2018.04.26 and 2018.04.24, on Win7 and Debian. Did you tried it under a new profile or at least after cleaning CTR's preferences?

Yes, I have tried CTR on a new profile.

Testing shows CTR does appear to work correctly on Windows 7.
I currently experience this even with 2018.04.27 on Windows 10. Same configuration on Window 7 works correctly.
This issue may be related to this: (Windows 8+). https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1117216
I tried the suggested workaround (exporting registry entries from Windows 7 and using on Windows 10). The suggestion did not work for me.

I have also copied the same profile from the Windows 10 machine to the Windows 7 machine and it works with Basilisk 2018.04.27.

The White Tab Text issue appears to be as that old article from 2016 for Firefox mentions, something when run on Windows 8 or higher. I'd edit the subject to add that pertinent information if I could.

Just to be clear this issue for me appears to be Windows 10 (single laptop running that). Happens on a clean profile.
The issue does not occur on a Windows 7 machine with the same profile copied from the Windows 10 machine.

There are mentions of this issue as related to Firefox in the past and the theme then was Windows 8+ were impacted.

WORKAROUND that appears to work on Win10:
userChrome.css
.tabbrowser-tab .tab-label { color: black !important; }

Thank you all again for the awesome Pale Moon and Basilisk browsers. Now both Win7 and Win10 running and looking good on 2018.04.27.

I'm really disappointed. After two months I now dared an update to the current version. I had the March version before. Unfortunately, the problems with the display of the tabs have not improved. Also the workaround with userChrome.css does not work for me. The tab bar will look even worse. Like this:
