Increase Display Sharpness

Trying to increase sharpness of recent Firefox and Basilisk display, not just for fonts but also for images incl Netflix promo stills and streaming.
Seems that about:config key layout.paint_rects_separately=true still improves sharpness (as back in 2014 according to posts).
With hardware acceleration on, I get no slowdown of note on benchmarks; with hardware acceleration off, benchmarks do slow down.
Other thoughts? tips?
Basilisk 2018.02.02, e10s content processes=2 on older HP Core 2 Duo laptop

Giraffe, thanks. Read through the thread and learned some things. Wow! Your display was really fuzzy with those Iris anti-aliasing defaults. My Basilisk display was passable to begin with but a little crisper now with the layout.paint_rects_separately tweak mentioned above (and my Pale Moon display was already nice and crisp). Like you, I want to keep hardware acceleration working. I also did the Win10 Control Panel \ Fonts \ "Adjust ClearType text" routine in case that had any effect.
