Change New Tab Page

Unread post by ron_1 » 2017-12-05, 00:49

Sorry if this should be common knowledge. Is there a way, without an add-on, to change the new tab page? I'd like it to be blank.

(I did do a search on the forums and found nothing about it for Basilisk, and an internet search seems to imply the only way to do it is with an extension.)

According to the Mozilla knowledgebase, which should still be relevant at this point in time:
Mozilla Support wrote:You can set your New Tab page to show your most visited sites or nothing at all. To access these controls, click on the cogwheel icon in the top-right corner of the new tab. [...] To remove all sites from the New Tab page, select Show blank page.

To hide everything on the New Tab page, including the New Tab controls (or to choose the page that opens in a new tab) you can install the New Tab Override (browser.newtab.url replacement) add-on.
So without an add-on, the best you can really do is to use the "Show blank page" option from that icon.

I've always done it through the about:config page.
Find browser.newtab.url and set it to about:blank.

This sets the new tab to an absolutely blank page, and does not require a plug-in.

That config option does exist in Pale Moon, but not in Basilisk.

Oh boy, I did not check to see which part of the forum I was in. Sorry! :silent:
