So what exactly is Brasilisk in relationship with PM? Is the underlaying technology completely different than that PM runs on, or is it just more modern "version", sort of taken from Firefox before the last drastic changes?

Please see also this collection of posts that I made here:
Basilisk misperceived as replacement for PM

I gathered up several posts that explain the purpose and plans for Pale Moon, Basilisk, and UXP, and also I hope clear up some misconceptions.

Your point? It's development software.. It will get better. Also, on my system it overall is at least as performent as Pale Moon if not noticeably better in some areas. We are really getting very serious about this platform and will next year be really focusing on getting it ready for Pale Moon which means THAT effort will be reflected on Basilisk. This all bodes well for the future!

Do note that Mozilla added about 8 million MORE lines of code vs Tycho and the increased co-oping of e10s and the on-the-fly conditional operating system javascript codepaths instead of it being preprocessed out is going to have an effect. This in time will all be reduced and the js codepaths will once again become targeted for each target OS and less will have to be processed on-the-fly. It can ONLY go up from here and while there are many new challenges.. There are also new opportunities.

I would think by now we have proven ourselves in doing this kind of work as well as responding to deficiencies eventually resolving them.
