PDF Issues In Basilisk

Unread post by Erro404tee » 2024-03-18, 16:42

Hello,

I am having issues opening PDFs inside of the Basilisk Browser. One of the main issues occurring is that when I go to open PDF reports from inside of the TRX Enterprise, the PDF reports are about 90% blank. But when the PDF is opened elsewhere, all of the information is present. It is currently configured so that PDFs open in another tab in Basilisk. I have done a little bit of research and a couple of users have Nuance PDF plugin but I am unable to locate that plugin anywhere. I have also had trouble finding any PDF viewer plug-ins/add-ons for Basilisk. Could I get some assistance?

Thanks,
error404tee

Can you provide an example PDF file that you are having issues with so I can take a look?

Hmmm SumatraPDF is still a viable option (today's version still needs extract the old Netscape NPAPI dll from V3.0 installer)

Come a long way with Dark Mode and basic annotation.

Works inline (online) or offline with local files after download

the PDF reports are about 90% blank.
The Basilisk’s PDF reader is based on the ‘Seamonkey PDF.js’ (vide https://repo.palemoon.org/Basilisk-Dev/ ... 5531533e7e), right? If so, I think this is the issue here: https://github.com/IsaacSchemm/pdf.js-s ... y/issues/6

Edit:
I looked at the console and, in my case, the actual problem was that Web fonts were disabled (browser.display.use_document_fonts set to 0, the same as ‘Preferences’ > ‘Content’ > ‘Fonts & Colors’ > ‘Advanced…’ > [untick] ‘Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above’). The problem with the PDF Erro404tee uploaded seems to be another. Though I think it is worth to add a way to fallback to a default font.

I installed SumatraPDF to be able to use the PDF reader plugin, but it seems the plugin only works in the 32 bit install of Pale Moon, not x64? atleast, it isn't listed in the plugins list in the x64 version...

Correct, plugins are binary components that need to be separately compiled for processor architectures. Unless Sumatra offer a 64-bit version of their plugin you'll have to use 32-bit Pale Moon for it to work. In fact plugin compatibility is a big reason some people stay on 32 bit Pale Moon despite having a 64-bit OS and more than 4 GB RAM.

Of course this is about Basilisk, not Pale Moon, but the same applies.

@moonbat
4GB would be twice as nice Image
I am running this 64bit Latest Palemoon with SumatraPDF 64Bit this weeks release on Windows 7
(relative 50% - 98% working CPU & memory consumed by 250 KB memory runtime+ overheads in a 2GB netbook)
anything more resource hungry like out of support Edge will not run just crawl.

There are developer and other 3rd party 64 compiled plug-ins but non approved so not usually found in the web

if you wish one to check in Virus-total here is a link to one (not by me) that I use

NOTE to use the batch file installer you need to edit as required and run as elevated since the dll needs adding along with the installer program files and registered for correct platform https://mega.nz/folder/WwIiFDyZ#eA2g4lw ... r/Lx4FCTgA

Running 64bit in current 33.2 has no new issues but beware the behavior is natural that as with all PDF they download first then sent to the viewer and in SumatraPDF case that can open external window before return it to browser frame, so on a slow machine like mine you may see the screen jump!

Note unsuported by SumatraPDF development as a depreciated "feature" but works with most recent 3.6 pre-release touch pad and touchscreen enhancements etc.

Oddly SumatraPDF viewer apart from being usable with legacy plug-in within Basilisk/Palemoon has some web browsing abilities via Trident If I FileOpen above linked file I will see it in full detail.

Sorry for extra

Post Scriptum

I forgot to mention one key point about SumatraPDF plug-in is that

Each time you update SumatraPDF (and for me that may be several times a week, testing different versions) THEN the DLL needs re register !
