Prefs you change when you install Basilisk and why?
There are some default behaviors that I know I always change when I do a fresh installation of Basilisk. I imagine this is true for some of you as well. What are the prefs you change and why do you change them?
For me the list of changes is the following:
* Disable smooth scrolling
* Always ask which folder to place downloaded files
* Check for updates but let me choose when to install them
* Set homepage to a blank page
Please note: While there are changes you can make to improve privacy, this thread is not for recommendations on privacy prefs. Privacy is an individualized thing and people have different needs. Please do not suggest privacy related changes here.

I feel that in general these kinds of posts are a form of phishing. Why give out the particulars of your setup? Bragging rights, okay. But it could also be used later to uniquely identify you, and not theoretically. Even settings that are not "privacy related" can/do show up in UA profiling done by some sites.

- Always ask for download location
- accessibility.typeaheadfind.flashBar 0
- Don't check for default browser on startup
- Startup: Show windows and tabs from last time
- Warn on about:config false

For me the list of Preference changes is:
* Always check default browser (unset - daily driver is Pale Moon but much enjoy using and tweaking Basilisk)
* Homepage (set to my preferred additional search plugin)
* Downloads - Save files to (prefer Desktop so can see download completes, then usually scan file to confirm clean)
* Default Search Engine (change, reorder, add additional search engine plugins via XML Search Engines Exporter/Importer-0.3.5-fx Addon)
* History (use custom settings... alter settings to suit my personal privacy wishes)
* Basilisk updates (Check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them)

Why would I want to phish users of the browser I develop? That would instantly destroy all of my credibility and would kill Basilisk as a viable project for almost everybody immediately.Bilbo47 wrote: ↑2023-03-13, 16:58I feel that in general these kinds of posts are a form of phishing. I'm asking to see if there are defaults that people in the community think we should change in Basilisk and why.

I make sure my homepage is a blank page for faster browsing. That's it - that's the list. Very nice browser, nice work. I've noted elsewhere that the memory usage is extremely low for some reason.

Apparently I'm an idiot. Before replying I looked at your avatar and decided you were a random new account; I read the date wrong. Never occurred to me that you could be the maintainer. Obviously I had a huge brain fail at that moment; my bad.
