Horizontal pixel shift

Unread postby arnad » Fri, 07 Sep 2018, 11:12

Hello everyone,

since updating to Pale Moon 28.0.1 (64) on Linux Mint XFCE, I have some lines of pixels shifted to the right. This happes across multiple websites, e.g.,
tu-dresden.de
horizontal_shift.png

or google.com/images
horizontal_shift2.png

but does not happen in other browsers (Firefox, Opera, Vivaldi, Chrome). The lines are not consistent and can be fixed by scrolling up and down, although this usually creates other lines somewhere else. My impression is that it is less likely to happen if I scroll very quickly.

Greetings,

Arnad

What video card?
Issue persist if you disabled Hardware Acceleration?

I forgot, does PM have "smooth scrolling"?
If so, If you were to toggle its' setting?

(I imagine there are a ton of video related Prefs & I wouldn't have a clue on those.)

Just like you, I also use 64 bit linux Pale Moon 28.0.1 runnning in 64 bit linux Mint 19 (Tara) Xfce. I cannot reproduce the problem you're having and I even used one of your examples with the "Release Notes with About Pale Moon".

Below is a screenshot attachment depicting what I'm seeing on my linux PM with Mint 19 (Tara) Xfce. You'll have to left click on the attachment to make it larger and easier to see.

Yes, although I have the feeling that it happens less. Hard to put than in numbers, though

This seems to have done it. Could obviously be I just got lucky, but I've used it without smooth scrolling for about three hours and not seen any shifts.

Smooth scrolling requires very rapid blitting and video updates. This can be a problem with some setups (especially internal video with a shared memory model) and certain drivers that have timing bugs.

Glad to hear disabling it solved your problem.
