Bing Maps & MSN

Post by Corrine » 2016-10-09, 23:12

Since this is the first time I've run a beta version of Pale Moon, my apology if I'm reporting something I think is a problem when it really isn't and is normal with the beta version.

1) Clicking a link to directions on Bing Maps, the following information was provided:
Bing Maps is not available on your browser.
You can use Internet Explorer 10 or 11, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera using a PC or tablet, or Safari using a Mac or iPad.
2) I recall the display of the weather page being outdated a number of Pale Moon versions ago but was fixed at that time in the next update. With Version 27.0.0b1, http://www.msn.com/en-us/weather displays only the current day, not the extended forecast or the ability to select "daily summary", "hourly" or "details". The map showing the radar image isn't available either. The only way to see the difference is to compare the difference viewing the webpage with the beta and with the currently released Version 26.5.0.

Corrine, for MSN and other MS websites like bing you probably need to use "Firefox Compatibility Mode" for the user agent. See Options -> Advanced -> tab "General"

I'll probably be (still) forced to make the final release have a short list of big players (and usually only the big players) that refuse to acknowledge our existence in their 2-decade outdated "browser feature detection methods" by way of UA sniffing... Sad but true.

That did the trick. As adamant as I am about using Pale Moon, I am also adamant about using Bing.

I'm afraid you're right, Moonchild. I get so tired of seeing one of those "use a modern browser" notices. Dang it all, Pale Moon is modern, secure and makes changes as improvements, not change for the sake of change.
