Disable "Close the window when the last tab is closed" by default

Post by jkl321 » 2026-05-15, 17:41

Hello,
I would like to suggest changing the default behavior of the setting:
Preferences → Tabs → "Close the window when the last tab is closed"
Currently, this option is enabled by default.
I think it would be better if it were disabled by default instead.
Many modern browsers keep the window open after the last tab is closed, which helps prevent accidental browser exits and provides a more convenient workflow for users who often reopen or create new tabs.
Of course, users who prefer the current behavior could still enable the option manually.
Thank you for considering this suggestion.

That's one of the beautiful things with Pale Moon. I set this to disabled once, long ago, and it's persisted in the profile through all the updates since.
The default for GUI options is just a temporary book cover that reads "your browser, your way".
(If I had a grumble, it would be not being able to close ctrl+f and ctrl+j with the same shortcut, but there are addons for that too, if I really, really, wanted to)
