The Option To Not Load Images

Post by activedesign19 » 2025-04-07, 18:22

Pale Moon / Basilisk Users Sometimes Want To Browse the Internet Without Loading Images, in other words, text only

It is very important for laptop users who have a limited battery life

I was not able to find that option for the latest Basilisk browser for MS Win platform

Seems like you wouldn't believe, but image decoding is one of the lesser offenders(approaching zero significance actually) of resource usage in modern abomination of web...

It's one of the options in the Web Developer's Toolbox extension.

Forked extensions :
● Add-ons Inspector ● Auto Text Link ● Copy As Plain Text ● Copy Hyperlink Text ● FireFTP button replacement ● gSearch Bar ● Navigation Bar Enhancer ● New Tab Links ● Number Tabs ● Print Preview Button and Keyboard Shortcut 2 ● Scrollbar Search Marker ● Simple Marker ● Tabs To Portfolio ● Update Alert ● Web Developer's Toolbox ● Zap Anything

Hint: If you expect a reply to your PM, allow replies...

Not sure why you are looking in "security" and "privacy" for this.
In Pale Moon it's an option in preferences -> content
In Basilisk you probably have to use about:config for it; I don't think there's a GUI for it there (but better post in the basilisk board if you need help with that)

Apparently it is very hard to explore the preferences menu compared to registering an account, typing a question and waiting for replies :coffee:

Off-topic:
Marked this as off-topic only as it's technically the wrong section.

Here's an archive URL to ImageBlock 3.1 add-on that functions fine with Basilisk and is simple and convenient to use.

Isn't ηMatrix a good option for this? Yes, it blocks a lot more by default but everything could be allowed, except for images. Then they could be quickly toggled, per-site or globally.

That is one option, but I don't globally disallow images in ηMatrix, instead I globally block media elements larger than 0kb in uBlock. Clicking on an image placeholder loads the image, or you can click in the uBlock toolbar popup to disable image blocking for a whole web page at once.

There used to be an add-on called QuickJava (can be found in Classic Add-ons Archive) which placed a series of buttons in the toolbar for quickly toggling JS, Java, Flash, Silverlight, Cookies, Images, Animated Images, and CSS Style. Maybe it's worth a try.
However, [at least] its latest compatible version has a quirk in that, after installation it blocks all following toolbar buttons from being movable.
And I'm not sure how well it behaves with current Pale Moon versions. I do have it installed in current PM 33.7.0 since years ago but haven't actually used it in a very long time.
Also no idea if it works with Basilisk.

Pointless to get such an ancient abandoned addon long after binary plugins have fallen out of use (Java/Flash/Silverlight) when eMatrix already offers the same features and more.

And eMatrix most definitely works with Basilisk.

May be so, but it still provides a much easier way to toggle other five element types, including images - which is what the OP wants. And one doesn't necessarily have to add the full add-on toolbar - any of the buttons can be added separately, so it could only be one or two buttons (the I and the A - Images and Animated Images) if the user doesn't need the others.
Anyway, it was just one of the available options.
