My old laptop can only support SSE2, and I have several privately used extensions currently being debugged.
In versions prior to v33.4.0.1, I could edit the unpacked XPI files in the profiles\ directory." After restarting Palemoon, the modified values would take effect immediately.
However, after upgrading to v33.4.0.1 SSE2, I must reinstall Palemoon for the changes to take effect.
Did I miss any settings?

Depends on whether the extensions are restartless or not. And you don't need to keep them unpacked in the profile directory - make a text file there whose name is the ID of your extension, and put the path to your unpacked extension (can be anywhere as per your convenience) inside it. Next time you start PM you will be prompted to install the extension in question.
