Opensearch plugin and PNG favicons

Unread post by Wastelander » 2023-06-30, 14:36

I have noticed that when some websites have an opensearch.xml file pointing to a remote favicon.png image and I add the search plugin to the right quick search bar, the xml file saved in the searchplugins folder doesn't have the remote image URL, but actually a Data URL with the image embedded in bae64 format. I wonder whether this is the default browser behavior for the PNG images and, if yes, it could be possible to save the search plugin with a remote favicon URL instead of a data URL.
