FUEL disabling option

When FUEL was removed, I encountered no adverse effects. Now it is obviously needed by many people and therefore it is back again. I do not know how deeply it is intertwined with the other code, but would it be possible (and make sense?) to have an option/preference to disable use of FUEL?

It makes no sense nor is it possible to "disable" FUEL. FUEL is an abstraction layer in JavaScript. If it's not being used by your extensions it effectively does nothing.
