Benefits of recent SpiderMonkey tuneup

Post by adesh » 2019-07-23, 14:17

Other that implementing few parts of JavaScript standards which will fix compatibility issues with a few more websites, is there any other benefit of that patch to the end users. Will we see (slightly) improved performance? More security? Better stability (not saying things were unstable before)?

Nothing -direct- no. That was never the intention of the tuneup patch.

Indirectly, it may make it easier to implement other things in the future -- and at the very least Luke has learned things and now has a better understanding of SpiderMonkey code (and its limitations and pitfalls) by doing all this, so we've gained someone else who can help with JS patches :)
