autoplay won't disable

Unread post by jbclem » 2015-09-05, 03:53

I have the latest Atom version (25.7.0) and in about:config I have set media.autoplay.enable to false. Unfortunately I still have the problem, on various websites, where a video will just start playing with no input from myself. What exactly does media.autoplay.enable do if it doesn't control these autoplaying videos? And is there another way to accomplish the same thing?

Yeah, set plugins to "ask to activate" which will sorta do this, but only for certain video/audio plugins: Flash, Silverlight, QuickTime and others. I know, it won't work for HTML5 videos that do auto play. How about a test site?

media.autoplay.enable only applies to content that the browser has direct control over. It won't apply to plugin-based media.

The only way I have been able to stop this is with "Youtube Center"

I know that this add-on is not officially supported in Pale Moon but it does work for me and I'm using the latest Pale Moon. It allows you to stop auto play and auto buffering on internal and external players.

Note: It will not work if you enable Html5 only playback as it will give sound but no video.

Only occasionally will I run into a video that will run auto play anymore.
