HTML5 No Video just sound in Youtube? SOLVED

Unread post by Thehandyman1957 » 2015-08-19, 21:35

Hey all, Working on my transfer to Linux and one issue I need to resolve is not having flash player and being able to use HTML5 instead. I have the add-on Youtube Center and changed the settings to run in HTML5 and it will load the video but I get only sound and no Video.

What's weird is I can see the little preview boxes on the bottom if I scroll my mouse on them.

This seems to be a Youtube issue as I can test it on this page http://www.w3.org/2010/05/video/mediaevents.html and it works fine.

Seems to be a add-on issue. When I start in safe mode it will play. I will figure out which one and report back.

Ok, so this seems to be a conflict with Youtube Center https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... src=search

This is a bummer because I used this to make certain changes to Youtube. One of those changes was the dash playback that was always causing problems with the buffering. I could disable this with Youtube center. Also it had an ability to make the external Youtube players work with HTML5 also.

Can't find another like it. Maybe someone here could take a look at it. Hint hint pretty please?

I did find this add-on that would do the same thing for external players but it's for Firefox 26. Only .4 away. Is there a way around this?

Going to Linux will kill my ability to use flash so I need a good alternative.

I'm using greasemonkey --> viewtube --> mozplugger --> mpv for watching youtube videos smoothly.

Why will going to Linux kill your ability to use Flash? Yes, Adobe is no longer actively developing Flash for Linux, but it is still available, still integrated into a number of distros out of the box, and still receiving security updates. I've been using Flash on Linux for quite some time. There have been a few annoyances here and there, but no problems major enough for me to consider my ability to use it killed.

Edit: typos. Bad typos. Naughty typos.

Hey, ipsirc Is greasemonkey a add on for Firefox? Could you clarify?

Hello, Nigaikaze Yes you are right and right now I am downloading Ultimate Edition 4.4 and it comes with flash already to go. So no worries.
Thanks for your comment though.

It would still be great if someone could take a look at youtube center. It's a great add-on.
