Slacker Radio

Unread post by Vardamir Nólimon » 2015-06-29, 04:39

Hi. I'm trying to use and become familiar with Slacker radio http://www.slacker.com because I think it will be a viable alternative to Sirius XM. Problem is that when I try to play something using my computer XP , Pale Moon, it gives the following error message:

"It appears that Flash is not
installed or is being blocked. Please
ensure that you have Flash 10 or
higher installed and disable any
plugins you may have that could
block flash."

Well, I have Adblock Latitude installed but I disable it on the Slacker website. I had Flash player 18.0.0.114 and I just upgraded that to 18.0.0.198. It won't play. What am I doing wrong? Is there some setting that I need to change in about:config ??

Thanks for any help.

I don't think this is an Adblock issue. Check to see if you have Shockwave Flash set to "Ask to Activate" or "Always Activate" in Add-ons > Plugins. Then click the icon/placeholder at the left of the address bar to see if Adobe Flash is enabled on http://www.slacker.com (as below).

Also check things like 3rd party cookie settings, it might be using some detection/verification/advertising via a different site.

I checked the plugin and it is set to "always activate."
I checked the little icon to the left of the address bar and it says "adobe flash is enabled on http://www.slacker.com"
I checked my 3rd party settings and it accepts 3rd party cookies - "always"

Same error message...

Please test the website under a clean profile.

OK, did that. Reopened Pale Moon (no add ons enabled). Tried Slacker. Same error message.

Any other ideas what could be causing this?

I just want to add that Slacker is a free service - if anyone else out there has XP and wants to test it to see if the same thing happens...

Maybe it's Slacker. But Slacker is supposed to work with Firefox so I figure I'm safe with Pale Moon.

???

Ok, Vardamir Nólimon. I took your challenge and tried it myself and it loaded just fine. I am also using Windows XP Pro with Pale Moon 25.6.0

Also just to note, I am using Adblock Latitude, Disconnect, Ghostery, Better Privacy, Disable Anti-Ad Block, Encrypted Web, No Script and Self Destructing Cookies and it still loaded just fine.

Just a thought, Do you have more than one version of Flash on your computer? Take a look at your "plug-in"s" page. It should only show one version of Flash Player. Like this, click image for larger view.
ScreenHunter_01 Aug. 10 21.23.gif
After checking that, you can check your version of flash here https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb ... ndows.html
Just follow the instructions. Even if it shows your version I would use the flash uninstall program and completely remove all versions of Flash from your computer and make sure Pale Moon is closed completely when doing this. Then reload Flash.

Also you might want to try this version of Flash instead. It was recommended by Moonchild as a good alternative to the latest versions out there and it won't give you any problems with the update nag on web sites. This is the version.
ScreenHunter_02 Aug. 10 21.29.gif
And here is the link. https://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/f ... plugin.msi

After loading the new flash then restart Pale Moon and check your "plug-in's" page and again make sure that it is the only one and is selected as "always activate"
and then give Slacker another try.

Hope this helps

Hi,

I just updated my flash plugin and it says that I have "Shockwave Flash 19.0.0.142." Is that one OK? The Slacker radio still doesn't work - I'm still getting the same error message. I have Adblock Latitude and disabled it. I can't believe that I can't figure this out. But thanks for trying to help me out.

Maybe can it be something on Pale Moon Commander that I screwed up?

I would still go through the steps I outlined.

It loads fine for me. Are you using NoScript? I had to click "Allow all this page" once, and then it worked just fine.

BTW, Flash 19.0.0.142 is a beta version. I know that's not your problem since you state it doesn't work with version 18 either. Just mentioning it.

I tried everything. I shut off all my add-ons. Didn't help. I completely uninstalled flash and then reinstalled latest version from the adobe website. Didn't help. This is really bugging me. handyman, I didn't yet try that version of flash since I'm using 19.0.0.142 which I believe is the latest version (hate going in reverse). But I suppose that one of these nights I will try that for the heck of it. For now, I'm using chrome to log in and play my Slacker. But I hate doing that and I should be able to do it in Pale Moon. I can't believe that I can't figure this out; my flash works fine on every other site in the universe. But thank you all for the suggestions and advice.

:problem: Hmm, that is very strange. So your saying that Flash works great in Pale Moon for every other site but Slacker? Am I understanding you right?

That is correct. Only on the Slacker site do I encounter this problem. Other than that, my flash is fine.

Can you give us a screen shot of your plug ins panel? It might help to see what else is running.

The reason I ask is because I must have just about every type of security extension there is and I still have no problem getting on to
Slacker.

Sure. Here it is and sorry for not getting back sooner. I only leave on the 3 on the top. The rest stay off. I'd remove the Java Deployment thingy since it gives a warning - but I'm not sure how to get them out so I just leave them off.

Thanks.

Well, It looks clean to me. I'm stumped at this point.

I think at this point I would try creating a new profile and deleting your old one. Some times you get a bug in the profile and it simply won't go away. It does mean that you would have to save your passwords and bookmarks and such. You could use the Pale Moon Backup tool so that if it does not fix the problem you could always just restore your older profile.

It's worth a try ;)

New profile? Forgive me, how would I go about that? I have all my passwords backed up in LastPass and all my bookmarks are backed up in FEBE. Do you mean creating a whole new profile on the computer itself (new user)?

Sorry for the confusion. Sometimes we assume a person will understand something when indeed we didn't ask.

I am referring to Pale Moons Profile. It is where Pale Moon keeps all the settings and things like add-on's, Bookmarks, Passwords etc.

In this screenshot you will see that in my Pale Moon I have the older style bar and by clicking on "File" it will show a menu.
Screenshot - 9_13_2015 , 9_05_00 PM.png
If you have the newer version it will look something like this.
Screenshot - 9_13_2015 , 9_09_04 PM.png
Now if you look closely you will see in both a selection for "Opening Profile Manager" highlighted blue.

If you left click on the "Normal Mode" you will get this box.
Screenshot - 9_13_2015 , 9_11_37 PM.png
Go ahead and click "yes" and wait for Pale Moon to close and it will open with a Profile Manager box.

Here you can create a new profile and name it anything you want. Once done you can open Pale Moon in that new Profile.
After completing this process try to go back to Slacker Radio and see what happens. If you can get in then your on your way. Then all you have to do is restore your bookmarks and such.

Now after this when you restart Pale Moon (if I remember right) the Profile Manager will open first before Pale Moon starts to ask you what profile you want to use. If your happy with the new profile then you can tell it to remember it so it won't keep asking you. Don't delete your old profile yet.

If all this does not fix your problem then let me know and we can take the next step.
